To the Editor:
As Old Lyme voters head to the polls, it’s important to remember that Kimberly Russell Thompson is running for re-election to the Board of Finance. This is the same Kimberly Russell Thompson who vocally supported the highly controversial Halls Road Overlay District (HROD)—a proposal that faced overwhelming opposition from residents. The town meeting on the issue was standing-room only, with hundreds more turned away at the door.
Despite this public outcry, Thompson backed a plan that would have allowed dense, three-story mixed-use buildings along one of Old Lyme’s busiest and most congested roads—potentially accommodating between 1,500 and 3,000 new residents and parking garages.
This raises serious concerns about her judgment. If this is her approach to development and planning, can we really trust her to make sound decisions about our town’s finances?
As chair of the Old Lyme Democratic Town Committee, Thompson represents a leadership trend that many see as increasingly out of step with the values of our community.
For thoughtful, practical financial oversight, I encourage voters to support Matthew Olson and David Kelsey—candidates with real-world experience who will put Old Lyme’s taxpayers first.
