Shipping Minister Vassilis Kikilias has told the intergovernmental Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (P-TEC) summit in Athens that strategic American investments in Greek ports and shipyards can be expected in the coming months.

“The prime minister has ordered that discussions with our American counterparts begin on how to strengthen shipyards and ports, here and in the United States, so that they can be connected to each other,” Kikilias said. “In the coming weeks and months, we will move forward with an agreement regarding American strategic investments in Greece, in the area of infrastructure.

“Whoever dominates the sea, dominates trade and energy,” Kikilias noted, recalling that over 80% of global trade is transported by sea. He said Greece has 20% of the world’s merchant fleet, making it a crucial factor in the energy supply chain.

Kikilias said liquefied natural gas (LNG) will shape the global energy reality in the coming years, with Greece and the United States collaborating to transport it to allies. He added that his discussions with American ministers cover shipyards, ship repairs, new shipbuilding, and investments in ports and the workforce.
