10 Spring Fashion Staples for Moms, Starting at $14

Not to get all sappy, but my mom really is my superhero. She’s unbelievably confident, gives the best advice, and gets more accomplished in a day than I could hope to in a month. Plus, she manages to look incredible while doing it.

Since she’s one of the best dressed people I know, I decided to give her a call to ask what styles she’s planning on buying for spring. As always, her choices, like flowy white blouses and colorful flats, sparked some much needed inspiration for my own shopping wishlist.

If you’re searching for chic and practical fashion staples for the upcoming season, look no further than the list below, where you’ll find mom-approved styles from Amazon, Nordstrom, and Madewell, starting at just $14.

Now that we’re finally shedding our parkas and puffers, it’s time for thinner layers. Therefore,  stocking up on lightweight jackets is my mom’s first order of business for transitioning out of winter. She’s currently a fan of utility styles such as this army green pick, which, thanks to an inner drawstring, has a flattering, waist-cinching silhouette. For something slightly more polished, she’s also hunting for outfit-making trench coats, like this lightweight double-breasted style. Considering she works in an office five days a week, it’s the perfect professional yet stylish outerwear option for spring.

With a bustling work and social life, my mom is also shopping for breezy white blouses she can “dress up or dress down.” While she couldn’t care less about the trend cycle, she’s surprisingly right on the money with this choice—flowy, boho blouses are all the rage this season. Get the look with this beautiful Endless Rose top; its crochet detailing and flouncy sleeves definitely achieve the feminine, romantic vibe at the forefront of the trend. Similarly, this light, ruffled Madewell blouse certainly fits her must-be-versatile criterion. Elevate the look with wide-leg trousers and kitten heels, or keep it casual with a classic pair of jeans and chunky loafers.

Ever since I moved to New York, the biggest difference between my mom and my fashion choices is our color palettes: I opt for all-black, while she’s not afraid of bold, bright hues. After scrolling through my recent mirror selfies, I realized I definitely need to remedy this by incorporating more color into my wardrobe. Therefore, I’m more than ready to co-sign her number one footwear choice for spring: colorful flats. My mom has a truly impressive collection of shoes, but—like mother, like daughter—she’s always on the hunt for more. She’s a big mules fan, meaning these cherry red slip-ons would fit right into her collection. Just as stylish are these leather slingback flats, which feature a barely-there heel and come in light green and baby blue.

No shopping spree is complete without accessories, especially given that they can make or break an outfit. Ever the tote bag connoisseur, my mom is on the search for a new tote to replace her existing ones she’s worn to death. Since summer is mere months away, what better option is there than this woven Madewell style?. If you’d rather go for something more classic, opt for this faux leather weekender tote, now on sale for just $26. As for jewelry, my mom is trying to “up her necklace game,” starting with dainty, layerable pieces like this gold pear-shaped pendant
