Authorities in northern Greece have arrested two suspects on drug smuggling charges after police found more than half a kilogram of heroin hidden inside a cereal box during a roadside check.

Police stopped a private vehicle Thursday on the Egnatia Odos near the Analipsi tolls outside Thessaloniki. With the assistance of a drug detection dog, officers discovered 518 grams of heroin concealed inside the box.

The driver and a passenger, both 20-year-old nationals of North Macedonia, were arrested.

According to authorities, the vehicle had entered Greece through the Evzoni border crossing earlier the same day.

Police said the suspects are facing charges related to drug trafficking. An investigation into the case is ongoing.
