A new game by 25th Century Games, Intent to Kill, is out now. In this game you’ll play as the detectives trying to catch the killer or the killer trying to outmaneuver the detectives:
We very excited because our new game Intent to Kill and the Deluxe Upgrade Pack has officially launched in retail stores! This a detective noire thriller game for 2-4 players where you will find yourself in the middle of a police investigation.
How Do You Play?
In this game the players divide into two groups, the murderer and the detective(s). The Murderer has to kill five civilians, while following their motive and hiding their identity. The Detective(s) has to identify the Murderer and determine their motive. The murderer also randomly chooses one of the civilian cards and motive cards that will be placed out unbeknownst to the detective(s). The game then proceeds in rounds with three phases: Murderer, Detective and City.
The Murderer Phase which consists of two steps: intimidation and murder. The murderer chooses a civilian to intimate that is not on the same row as the detective card. Then they flip over the character card and this prohibits the detective from questioning this person. Then they choose someone to murder that has to fit certain conditions. They swap the character card with a murder card and place it diagonally on the block.
The Detective Phase consists of two steps: initial response and investigation. If a murder occurred the detective moves their marker to the new crime scene and moves civilians at the scene away. During the investigation the detective can take two actions choosing to question civilians, build buildings like hospitals, police stations, fire stations or diners as well as move through the city. They can also use their surveilance token to figure out the motive.
The City Phase consists of two steps: working with the public and moving civilians. If any civilians are intimidated you now flip their cards back over. Then the murderer and detective(s) draw social tokens and can move every civilian of this social group once. If you draw a social token where there are no civilians, then you can move ciivilians of another group around. The round then ends and you check murders.
If the fifth murder was committed during this round, the game is over. If it wasn’t, start a new round with the Murderer Phase. If the game is ending the Detective has to name the civilian they think is the Murderer, as well as their Motive and the Murderer confirms or denies the Detective’s conclusions. If both conclusions are correct, the Detective wins. If at least one of them is wrong, the Murderer wins.
