The top movie on Prime Video this week is Luke Greenfield’s new buddy action comedy film Playdate. Despite overwhelmingly negative reviews, the Kevin James and Alan Ritchson-starrer has been a big success on streaming ever since it debuted on November 12th, 2025. But as popular as it might be right now, Playdate is hardly the only enjoyable film in the streamer’s catalog. Without further ado, here’s a look at three great movies that we think you should watch on Prime Video this week.

‘Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ (2000)
A live-action adaptation of the eponymous 1957 Dr. Seuss book, Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas was directed and produced by Ron Howard and stars Jim Carrey as the iconic title character. The movie narrates the story of the Grinch, a grouchy, green outcast living outside the picture-perfect community of Whoville, who decides to ruin Christmas. Narrated by Anthony Hopkins, the film also features Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski, Bill Irwin, and Molly Shannon in supporting roles.
Though it had mixed reviews at the time of its premiere, How the Grinch Stole Christmas was a major box office hit and is now a beloved holiday classic. One of the highest-grossing holiday movies of all time, the film captures the storybook feel of the book while fleshing out its characters into fully formed individuals, with a spectacular Jim Carrey performance in the lead and a deliciously dark sense of humor. The movie received several accolades, earning Carrey a Golden Globe nomination and winning two Academy Awards out of four nominations.

‘Gladiator II’ (2024)
Directed by Ridley Scott, Gladiator II is a historical epic that serves as a legacy sequel to Scott’s iconic 2000 film Gladiator. Starring Paul Mescal, the film follows Lucius Verus Aurelius, an exiled prince who becomes a gladiator and is caught in a conspiracy against the corrupt twin emperors Geta and Caracalla. Discovering his true heritage, Lucius fights to free Rome from the self-serving powers that be and return the empire to its former glory. Besides Mescal, the film also stars Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Connie Nielsen, and Denzel Washington in key roles.
Though it isn’t quite as brilliant as the original Gladiator, Gladiator II is a highly entertaining watch for fans of epic action, with some powerhouse performances, meticulous designs, and grand visuals. The film premiered in 2024 to a positive critical reception and box office success, grossing over $462 million. The movie also received several accolades, including nominations for two Golden Globe Awards and one Academy Award, and was named one of the top 10 films of the year by the National Board of Review.

‘Uncle Buck’ (1989)
Written and directed by John Hughes, Uncle Buck is a comedy film starring John Candy as the titular bachelor. A lovable but reckless character, Buck faces a major challenge when he is tasked with babysitting his brother’s kids: 15-year-old Tia (Jean Louisa Kelly), 6-year-old Maizy (Gaby Hoffmann), and 8-year-old Miles (Macaulay Culkin). Amy Madigan co-stars as Buck’s girlfriend Chanice, and the movie also features Elaine Bromka, Garrett M. Brown, Laurie Metcalf, Jay Underwood, Brian Tarantina, Mike Starr, Suzanne Shepherd, and more in supporting roles.
Despite a mixed critical reception, Uncle Buck premiered at the top of the box office in 1989 and held the spot for three consecutive weeks. In the years since, the movie has developed a cult following and is retrospectively regarded as one of the most iconic comedies of the late ’80s. After all, it’s a John Hughes movie starring Jim Candy and a pre-Home Alone Macaulay Culkin, and their combined talents make the film a nostalgic and wildly entertaining ride.
