If you’re having trouble picking something to watch on Prime Video this week, look no further than this trio of excellent films from the past and present. One of the earliest adopters of the online streaming model, Amazon’s Prime Video remains a popular platform. With a catalog a mile deep, Prime beats many of its competitors with its sheer size.
Not only does Prime Video host older content, it produces its own original movies and shows too. All this adds up to an ocean of choices, which makes picking the perfect mid-week watch nearly impossible. Thankfully, some of the best and brightest movies on the platform stand out from the rest, whether they be classic comedies or brand-new action flicks.

Heads Of State (2025)
Heads of State hit the platform in the summer of 2025, and it spent some time at the top of Prime’s movie chart. The goofy action comedy concerns the President of the United States and the British Prime Minister, who must put aside their differences and work together behind enemy lines. Idris Elba and John Cena lead a star-studded cast.
Though it suffers from cliché, Heads of State still has plenty of laughs and excitement for a casual watch. It doesn’t overstay its welcome, and the chemistry between Cena and Elba is undeniable. The best movies on Prime Video are often found in the top 10, and Heads of State is bound to remain popular for a long time.

Slap Shot (1977)
Often ranked among the best sports movies of all time, Slap Shot is undoubtedly the greatest hockey film ever made. A grizzled veteran player/coach does everything he can to save a struggling minor league hockey team from going out of business. Noted for its slapstick humor, the Paul Newman vehicle actually has a lot more to say.
The on-ice antics of the Hanson brothers are forever woven into hockey’s fandom, and the movie understands the sport’s heart. However, Slap Shot is also a drama about the state of the U.S. economy in the late 1970s. The film brilliantly draws the audience in with belly laughs, but leaves them thinking with a richer narrative than most sports flicks.

Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre (2023)
Director Guy Ritchie’s films are known for being slick and over-the-top, and Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre fits that bill. A secret agent is forced to work with a team in order to stop a billionaire from wielding a dangerous new weapon. Jason Statham stars, and is perfectly in his element as a gruff-talking action hero.
Operation Fortune‘s lackluster box office performance relegated it to the bottom of Ritchie’s filmography, but it’s worth a watch. It isn’t Ritchie’s best, but it’s an easy way to spend two hours. The cast is a who’s who, and it’s the kind of movie on Prime Video that can easily be enjoyed in the middle of a long week.
