3 Best Movies To Watch On Prime Video This Weekend (Dec 27-28)

Prime Video presents a thrilling selection of movies for the final weekend of 2025, and the list includes a classic holiday entry, as well as two films that recently dropped on the streamer after lighting up theaters earlier this year. Prime Video’s Christmas movies have been dominating the streamer’s charts throughout December.

As such, I had to include a Christmas entry on the list, though it is a classic film that spawned a franchise. The other two films on the list are a video game adaptation and an original supernatural movie that brings an auteur’s vision to one of horror’s most popular genres. These are the best movies to watch on Prime Video this weekend:

3

Die Hard (1988)

To start the list, I wanted to continue the Christmas theme a little longer. While the holiday is over, December remains the season to rewatch classic Christmas films. As such, Die Hard, which is set during Christmas Eve but is not a traditional Christmas movie, is the perfect film to watch on Prime Video in the transition period to the New Year.

Bruce Willis’ John McClane inspired multiple generations of Hollywood action stars, with Die Hard presenting a straightforward story, though told with flair. Alan Rickman makes Hans Gruber a delightful villain, mixing ruthlessness with wit and unexpected charm. The story is tightly put together, with a solid payoff to earlier mentions and plot points.

2

A Minecraft Movie (2025)

Right before Christmas, on December 22, A Minecraft Movie dropped on Prime Video. The nearly $1 billion film was one of the biggest success stories at the 2025 box office. The video game adaptation takes one of the world’s most popular franchises and delivers a fun adventure for a young audience.

With Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and more, A Minecraft Movie‘s cast revels in the absurdity of the story and the world their characters are getting into. While this film is not particularly strong in the script department, it is nonetheless a fun popcorn movie that will keep families engaged on Prime Video.

1

Sinners (2025)

Finally, Sinners was released today, December 26, on Prime Video. The vampire movie directed by Black Panther franchise visionary Ryan Coogler is impeccable. From production design to period-accurate costumes to a gorgeous score and original songs to its talented ensemble and more, Sinners is an absolute hit on all fronts.

It is no surprise that the movie has become a regular entry on best of year lists, with Sinners going as far as being voted the 3rd best movie of the year in ScreenRant‘s Top 10 Films of 2025 list. Michael B. Jordan delivers a gut-wrenching dual performance as twins Smoke and Stack, Hailee Steinfeld is endlessly charming as Mary, and Sinners is a must-watch on Prime Video.
