After several months without a streaming home, three of the best action movies of all time are coming to one of the biggest services soon. HBO Max has announced that the first three John Wick movies, including John Wick (2014), John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017), and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019), will begin streaming on the platform at the beginning of next year, on January 1. The fourth installment in the franchise starring Keanu Reeves is currently streaming for free on the Roku Channel, and a new streaming home for the film in the new year has yet to be announced.
The John Wick franchise expanded a few years ago with the help of Mel Gibson in the Peacock series, The Continental, which consisted of only three short episodes. The series was met with a lukewarm reception, and Reeves and John Wick director Chad Stahelski have confirmed that their opinions on the series were ignored entirely. The franchise further expanded earlier this year with Ballerina, the Ana de Armas-led spin-off that connects more directly to Keanu Reeves’ movies. Ballerina is currently streaming on Starz, where it’s been one of the most popular movies on the platform for weeks.
There are two more John Wick movies confirmed to be in development, including another spin-off film focused on Donnie Yen’s John Wick: Chapter 4 character, Caine, and a fifth John Wick movie led by Keanu Reeves. Reeves’ John Wick seemingly dies at the end of John Wick: Chapter 4, so it’s unclear how he will be revived in the fifth installment. Donnie Yen is also directing his Caine-focused spin-off movie, which is bringing back another Chapter 4 character, Rina Sawayama’s Akira.
Chad Stahelski Has a Big Project Ahead of ‘John Wick: Chapter 5’
Before he returns to the world of John Wick, Chad Stahelski is working with Henry Cavill on a Highlander reboot. The film is scheduled to begin production early next year, and it stars Russell Crowe and Dave Bautista opposite Cavill. Stahelski has to finish Highlander before he can move on to John Wick, and if Highlander doesn’t wrap filming until the second half of 2026, this means John Wick 5 likely won’t begin filming until late next year, or potentially even early 2027.
