The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today the death of three Egyptian citizens and the disappearance of 18 others due to the sinking of a migrant boat heading to Greece.

The ministry stated in a statement that it is following up on the incident of the boat sinking, which set sail last Sunday from one of the neighboring countries, carrying 50 migrants, including 21 Egyptians, 3 of whom died while 18 are still missing.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Badr Abdel-Aty, directed the Egyptian embassy in Athens to intensify communications with the relevant Greek authorities to follow up on the developments of the incident, the search efforts, and the recovery of the missing, and to expedite the necessary procedures for repatriating the deceased to Egypt.

The ministry confirmed that the embassy in Athens continues to receive the families of the victims to facilitate the repatriation of the bodies to the homeland as soon as possible.

The Foreign Ministry renewed its warning to citizens about the dangers of illegal immigration, urging them to exercise caution and not to be swayed by smuggling networks, in order to ensure their safety.
