This ASUS ROG Strix gaming monitor has hit its lowest price in 30 days at Newegg, and is now reduced from $759.00 to $669.00; a very good price considering what it brings to the table. You’ve got an OLED, QHD display, coming in with a very high 360Hz refresh rate and low response time, making for something that both showcases games at their best and allows for fast-paced gaming, too. On top of that, it features AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, for ultra-smooth HDR gaming, DCI-P3 99% coverage, for lifelike colors, and is ideal for accurate video editing to industry standards, and even Aura Sync lighting, for a touch of visual flair. Overall, for the price, this is a very strong option to go for if you have an upper-end 1440p gaming build and want something that’ll really make a statement in your setup.

Key features of the ASUS ROG Strix 27-inch gaming monitor

360Hz with FreeSync Premium Pro

The big thing with this monitor is its impressive 360Hz refresh rate, which is on the upper end for a 1440p display. It’s going to allow up to 360fps, which is more than enough for competitive gaming and ultra-smooth, fast-paced gameplay. On top of that, it features AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, which basically one-ups FreeSync and FreeSync Premium’s offerings by throwing in superior HDR handling. That’s a big win if you have an OLED monitor like this one.

OLED display

Not all OLEDs are the same, so let’s break this one down a bit. It’s a QD-OLED, which, in short, means it’s a more advanced OLED that incorporates Quantum Dot technology for improved color. It’s no surprise then that this monitor has DCI-P3 99% color, which makes everything look more true-to-life, but also helps with video editing to ensure accuracy to modern film industry standards. It has VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 compliance, which is decent as it means the blacks, in particular, are near-zero nits, giving you a pretty incredible contrast ratio.

OLED protection

As with many of the best gaming monitors on the market, this model features impressive burn-in protection. Perhaps one of the most important features here is its ability to detect static images, adjust brightness, and therefore manage heat around them. This is crucial for gaming, as there are often static menus, logos, crosshairs, and so on, that can remain on screen for hours at a time.

Design features

ASUS ROG goes all-in with design, and it’s often why people pay a bit more of a premium for its products. This monitor has Aura Sync lighting, which can be synced with Aura-ready motherboards, graphics cards, and other peripherals, which is a big win if you’re going for a seriously eye-catching setup. It also features a handy USC-C port with a massive 90W power draw, meaning you can connect your laptop to the monitor for display, and charge it at the same time.

Things to consider

Whenever you’re looking at OLED monitors, make sure you’re managing your expectations when it comes to brightness, as some of these whole VESA DisplayHDR True Black certifications can be confusing at the best of times. With this monitor, it’s True Black 400, which basically means it has to have more than 95% DCI-P3 color coverage, blacks, which are 0.0005 nits, and peak brightness that is more than 400 nits. Peak brightness is often confused with overall brightness, and they’re very far from the same, with peak brightness often being measured in much smaller areas of the screen. In short, for OLEDs, like this one, for the best experience, use them in lower light environments, where they look absolutely fantastic. For well-lit rooms, go for mini-LED monitors instead, which are way brighter in most cases.
