Whether you’re celebrating with a cozy at-home date night or just staying in to avoid the crowds of lovebirds, there’s plenty of new must-watch movies to curl up with.
Leading the pack this week is Dreamworks’ blockbuster live-action remake “How to Train Your Dragon” on Netflix. There you’ll also find the latest crowd-pleasing family comedy from Tyler Perry, “Joe’s College Road Trip.” Over on Apple TV, Marvel star Elizabeth Olsen’s “Eternity” is an offbeat romcom that seems tailor-made for fans of “The Good Place.” Let’s dive into the best new movies on streaming to watch this weekend.
‘How To Train Your Dragon’ (Netflix)
2025’s live-action “How to Train Your Dragon” movie just made the leap from Peacock to Netflix, and it’s already shot to the No. 1 spot. DreamWorks might have tailed behind Disney in jumping on the live-action remake bandwagon, but $600 million in global ticket sales later, it’s clear this won’t be the last of its IP to get the treatment.
The story remains much the same as the original: In a world where Vikings and dragons are sworn enemies, everything changes after Hiccup (Mason Thames), the awkward son of the village chief, stumbles on an injured Night Fury and learns that dragons aren’t the terrifying monsters he’s always been led to believe. He names him Toothless and nurses him back to health. Together, these two unlikely friends must stand against a threat to both humans and dragons alike.

‘Eternity’ (Apple TV)
A romcom with existential stakes? Consider me sat. “Eternity” went a little under the radar when it hit theaters late last year, but now that it’s on Apple TV, this is one unconventional Valentine’s Day movie that’s topping my watchlist this weekend.
Elizabeth Olsen stars as a woman named Joan who, newly dead, faces the impossible decision of who to spend eternity with. Her heart’s torn between her husband of decades (Callum Turner) and her first love (Miles Teller), who died young and has been waiting for her for decades. I love a bold swing when it comes to style, and “Eternity’s” retro-kitsch take on purgatory looks absolutely delightful.

‘Tyler Perry’s Joe’s College Road Trip’ (Netflix)
Netflix subscribers can’t seem to get enough of Tyler Perry’s movies, so don’t be surprised when his latest family comedy “Joe’s College Road Trip” makes the top 10 list this weekend. It’s a spin-off of Perry’s popular Madea franchise, this time following her foul-mouthed, hard-drinking brother Joe (Perry) as he takes his sheltered grandson B.J. (Jermaine Harris) on a cross-country road trip to prospective colleges.
Along the way, the two brawl with bikers, go on the run from the law, and deep dive into Black history. And because this is a Tyler Perry movie, you can expect some heart-warming lessons about family and self-determination to shine through the shenanigans.

‘Good Fortune’ (Starz)
Audiences slept on Keanu Reeves and Seth Rogan’s new R-rated fantasy comedy in theaters, but I’m hoping its arrival on Starz will get more eyeballs on this delightful slice of absurdism. Written and directed by Aziz Ansari, it stars Keanu Reeves in a rare comedic turn as Gabriel, a guardian angel who is really bad at his job.
Though already on thin ice with his supervisor (Sandra Oh), he’s determined to make a difference in the life of a struggling gig worker named Arj (Ansari). So, he pulls a “Trading Places” style swap with a wealthy tech bro (Seth Rogen) to prove to Arj that money doesn’t solve everything. The problem is, now that Arj knows how the other half lives, he’s not interested in going back anytime soon.

‘Predator: Badlands’ (Hulu)
Director Dan Trachtenberg’s “Predator: Badlands” is a bold spin on the franchise with plenty of fresh thrills and twists to get you swept up in the hunt. We got a peek into the world of Trachtenberg’s imagination with “Prey” and “10 Cloverfield Lane,” but “Badlands” unleashes it in full force, making this a must-watch for sci-fi fans.
Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi stars as Dek, a Predator shunned as an outcast by his people. Only his brother, Kwei (Mike Homik), remains by his side, but even that bond is pushed to its breaking point when Dek is stranded on the so-called “death” planet to prove he’s worthy of their clan. To earn his place, he must slay the deadly Kalisk and claim its place as the planet’s apex predator.
