New Movies Streaming

‘Hamnet’ (2025)

Before you rush off to Wikipedia to confirm, any evidence that William Shakespeare’s play “Hamlet” was inspired by the death of his son, Hamnet, is speculative. While the film may be a fictionalized account, the painful story of Anne (Jessie Buckley) and William’s (Paul Mescal) personal tragedy feels very real.

How to watch: “Hamnet” is streaming on Peacock.

‘It Was Just an Accident’ (2025)

Iranian director Jafar Panahi faces likely prison time if he ever returns to his home country after directing this film about a group of former Iranian political prisoners who believe they have found their captor and tormenter years after their confinement. Panahi has faced punishment from Iran for even the least political of his films, so it makes sense that this scathing critique of Iran’s authoritarian rule angered its leaders.

How to watch: “It Was Just An Accident” is streaming on Hulu.

‘The Secret Agent’ (2025)

Set in 1977 Brazil, “The Secret Agent” follows a researcher (Wagner Moura) who is trying to escape death by fleeing his home and reuniting with his son. The film’s description may sound glum, but director Kleber Mendonça Filho makes living under authoritarianism fun — or at least as fun as it can be. In the title role, Moura effortlessly channels movie-star suaveness while never losing sight of the constant anxiety bubbling just below the surface.

New TV Shows Streaming

‘Arrested Development’ (2003-19)

Oh, come on! Despite acquiring the streaming rights to “Arrested Development” more than a decade ago – and creating two additional seasons of the show in the 2010s – Netflix is losing the rights to this beloved FOX sitcom on March 15. For those who don’t already own the show on physical media, it’s worth spending the 10 days rewatching the first three seasons before saying goodbye to them.

How to watch: “Arrested Development” is streaming on Netflix.

‘Vladimir’ (2026)

Steve Carell’s new HBO show “Rooster” doesn’t debut until Sunday, but luckily there’s another new series that centers infedility and the inherent drama of life on a contemporary college campus. On Netflix’s “Vladimir,” Rachel Weisz plays an unnamed women’s literature professor who must grapple with the difficulty of teaching in 2026. Then there’s the burgeoning scandal involving her husband and department colleague (Boston native John Slattery, “Mad Men”), who is about to be fired for his many past student-teacher relationships.

How to watch: “Vladimir” is streaming on Netflix.

More new TV shows streaming this week: “Boyfriend on Demand” (Netflix); “R.J. Decker” (Hulu); “Rooster” (HBO Max); “Young Sherlock” (Prime Video)
