6 Spring Style Trends, Per a Texas-Based Fashion Editor

I’m one of the few fashion editors based in Texas, and I love when spring rolls around because the fashion trends that emerge are incredible. It’s the only time of year when the weather is perfect, so we can let our wildest fashion dreams come true—without having to cover up our clothes with thick coats or ruin our outfits with gallons of sweat.

As an Austinite, I’m always paying attention to what cool girls are wearing to the farmer’s market, on hikes, and while shopping at local boutiques. Unsurprisingly, I’m met with tons of fashion inspo that rivals my Pinterest boards and Instagram feeds.

Considering Texas is big, I reached out to a few of my friends and family members in Texas—who live in San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas—to see what spring fashion trends were also sprouting in their areas. Think: chic capri pants (that double as workout gear), breezy button-down shirts for transitional weather, and statement sneakers to make any outfit pop.

Below, browse the six spring fashion trends taking over Texas. Shop a whopping 30 pieces to get you started—from tie-waist dresses to cigarette jeans. The best part? Picks start at just $15.

Best Texas Spring Trends Overall

They say everything is bigger in Texas—and so are the trends. This spring, Texans are serving “rich mom” energy with divisive capri pants and button-downs—which are lightweight and easy to style during this transitional weather. Plus, loud luxury is in full effect here, with bold animal prints and statement sneakers taking over.

Relaxed Button-Down Shirts

During this transitional season, button-down shirts are a no-brainer. This timeless, chic style from Quince screams “rich mom,” while this elevated Oxford pick is a no-brainer—especially because it’s just $20 but looks triple the price.

Polarizing Animal Prints

Wearing animal print fashion pieces might be polarizing to some, but in Texas, it’s considered a neutral. If you want to join in on the fun, go big with this Dalmatian print dress or leopard jeans. If you aren’t ready to fully dive in, these cow print flats and white faux snakeskin belt will add just enough pizzazz to a simple, low-key outfit.

Breezy and ultra-flattering, this slip dress is elegant and eye-catching. Moreover, I love that the spotted print is both playful and practical—the statement pattern is bold and attention-grabbing, yet the black, white, and pastel yellow color palette pairs well with everything.

Flattering Cigarette Jeans

It can be blazing hot and Texans will still wear jeans—they’re that loyal to the closet staple. And while bootcuts and wide-leg bottoms remain popular, I’ve started noticing more cigarette jeans. Shop flattering, ultra-versatile pairs from Madewell, Quince, and Gap

A designer deal on a year-round staple? Yes, please. And these slim, straight-leg jeans from Michael Kors are as pretty as they are practical. They offer a light stretch for all-day comfort, while the light-wash finish means you can pair them with almost anything—kitten heels, glove flats, or sock boots.

Sculpting Tie-Waist Dresses

I typically dress for comfort, so if an outfit is comfy and cute, I’m instantly sold. That’s why I’m all in on the tie-waist dress trend. Many styles provide a shaping effect thanks to the wrap detail, like this midi dress. But for something more elevated, I’m snagging this date night option.

Most people consider my mom to be the best-dressed in every room, and after she put this Anrabess tie-waist dress on her wishlist, I had to have it, too. It has a flattering side wrap that shapes and sculpts. Plus, the side slit offers a touch of sexiness, while the slightly stretchy fabric adds extra comfort.

Statement Sneakers

My cousin who travels all over Texas said that Gen Z, millennials, and older generations are wearing statement sneakers, from work to happy hour. “That’s my go-to for any meeting,” she texted me. “When I’m out, the younger gens are wearing tennis shoes, too.” This is a trend I’ll gladly jump on—shop blister-free styles like this Blowfish Malibu slip-on and this Oprah- and podiatrist-approved sneaker. For a more fashion-forward pick, add the Puma sneakerina to your cart stat.

Worn by Oprah, Selena Gomez, and Bella Hadid, the podiatrist-backed brand created the perfect shoes in these Yancy Re-Nylon Sneakerinas. The cloud-like cushioning and satin laces give the same comfort and feel of traditional sneakers, while the round-toe and ballet flat style make it ultra-chic.

Elevated Activewear

In Austin, all the cool girls wear activewear—and I’ve adopted the uniform, wearing sleek shorts to my run club and this Taylor Swift-worn skort to the farmer’s market. I also finally found a high-impact sports bra that *actually* supports my DD cup size. Plus, shop these Kendall Jenner-codedcapri leggings.

This fitness skort from PopFlex doesn’t even look like activewear, thanks to the chic tulle design. But underneath is where the workout gear comes into play, featuring high-rise biker shorts with interior side pockets. Perfect for running errands, long walks, and everything in between, this has become my go-to.
