The Walking Dead sparked a pop culture storm. What began as a modest comic series has grown into a sprawling multimedia franchise. From books and TV shows to video games, The Walking Dead‘s success completely rewrote the narrative of the zombie genre. Not just for long-time fans, but for new audiences as well.
In this article, I’ve put together a list of six different games that successfully incorporated The Walking Dead into their worlds. If you haven’t checked them out yet, now’s the perfect time to do so!

1. Fortnite
First on the list is Fortnite. Fortnite is the leader of multiversal madness. While the video game didn’t launch with third-party intellectual properties as a main gameplay addition, by the time The Walking Dead shuffled into the queue, it was an expected and welcome addition.
The first official collaboration was released on Dec.17, 2020, and featured Michonne and Daryl Dixon. They came as part of the “Survivors in Arms” set. This set includes base skins for the characters as well as variant outfits and other cosmetics. Cool additions don’t end there. The much-beloved leader of our favorite survivors was added the following year, on Oct. 10, 2021. Rick Grimes was added to the game during the Fortnitemares event, along with a re-release of Michonne and Daryl.
On April 5, 2025, a fan favorite villain was added to the mix. The comic version of Negan and his trusty bat Lucille finally made their first appearance. But wait, there’s more. Fans were able to create their very own gameplay using The Walking Dead assets within Fortnite’s Unreal Editor starting on March 25, 2025. Creative fans can use the Prison Starter Island or Walker NPC Template, or if they’re feeling adventurous, they can build their own creations from scratch.

2. Minecraft
Minecraft has been around for a very long time. It should be no surprise that they jumped on the action and added character skins from The Walking Dead. This addition to the list is a little older, okay, maybe a lot older, but that doesn’t make it any less iconic. Skins for the game were added way back in 2014 for the Xbox 360 Edition. While this is the only official Minecraft release, there are several fan-made mods that completely revamped the game, such as The Mining Dead.

3. World War Z
I’ll be honest, World War Z wasn’t on my radar much until a recent Walking Dead collaboration. On Jan. 29, 2026, The Walking Dead and World War Z launched a massive crossover event. This DLC introduces Rick, Michonne, Daryl, and Negan to the game. It doesn’t end there, though. Players can also explore different locations from the show, including the Prison, Alexandria Safe Zone, and Grady Memorial Hospital.
The game also added two new weapons, Michonne’s signature katana and Negan’s bat Lucille. In addition, there are two new weapon skins. New and old fans alike should have a blast with this new content!

4. Magic: The Gathering
Magic: The Gathering is very near and dear to my heart. While I hadn’t played the game from the beginning, it has taken over a large part of my life over the past decade. As both a Magic fan and Walking Dead fan, I was thrilled by the Wizards of the Coast soft launch of their Universes Beyond series in October 2020.
“The Walking Dead Secret Lair” was the first chapter in a whole new realm of Magic. Series faves were all included: Rick, Michonne, Negan, Daryl, and even Glenn. These cards weren’t just fancy reprints. They were unique and added new mechanics. We already had zombies in the game, but now there were “Walkers” too. Each card felt brand-new and true to the characters they were portraying.

5. Telltale Games
The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series breathed new life into The Walking Dead universe. Fans could finally get into the heads of their favorite characters, like Michonne. We also got brand-new characters and lore that expanded the world of The Walking Dead, in the form of new protagonists Lee, Javier, and Clementine. With the Telltale Walking Dead games, choices mattered and players could choose to be ruthless survivors or try to act for the greater good.

6. Dead by Daylight
This list wouldn’t be complete without Dead by Daylight, which like Fortnite, is becoming known for adding third-party intellectual properties. Dead by Daylight already had popular horror franchises like Resident Evil, Halloween, and A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Heck, even Nicolas Cage makes an appearance in the game. But on July 29, 2025, survivors Rick and Michonne made their way into the fog along with a Daryl Dixon legendary skin. Three new perks associated with the power couple were also added to the game. The addition of these characters sparked mixed reviews among fans, but it remains a fun nod to the popular franchise.
Stay tuned to Undead Walking for any new updates on The Walking Dead franchise!
