7 Colossal Action Movies That Are 10/10 but Nobody Remembers Today
The action genre isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. From slick bank heists to illegal martial arts brawls, Hollywood has always been a big fan of stories where fists do most of the talking. In 2025 alone, over 24 notable action movies were released to audiences, including Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoningand Ballerina. Safe to say, the industry continues to be on the lookout for the next big action story.
But with the action genre now oversaturated with massive franchises, reboots, and nonstop releases, not every great film gets to be prominent in the discourse. They might have the makings of a great flick, but with time, memories of these movies have slipped through the memory cracks. They may not trend anymore, but they’re just as hard-hitting. Without further ado, here are the action movies that are 10/10, but nobody remembers today.
‘Cradle 2 the Grave’ (2003)
Jet Li and DMX driving a blue car in ‘Cradle 2 the Grave’Image via Warner Bros.
After stealing a cache of black diamonds, thief Tony Fait’s (DMX) daughter is kidnapped by a ruthless criminal who demands their return. Forced to work alongside Su (Jet Li), a Taiwanese intelligence officer, he races across the city to recover the missing stones. As they track rival criminals, they discover the diamonds are not gems but components of a dangerous weapon. With time running out, they must outmaneuver their enemies, stop the villain from creating a world-destroying machine, and rescue his daughter before the weapon is unleashed.
It’s not every day you get one of the biggest names in hip-hop and one of the biggest stars in martial arts kicking butt together. With DMX’s character from the streets and Li’s from the law, it’s interesting to see how these two big personalities clash on screen. Although Cradle 2 the Grave follows a simple “father saves daughter” premise, it features all the action components you’d expect from the genre — bank robberies, ATV escapes, and a final multi-fight climax.
‘Battle Royale’ (2000)
A group of students in junior high uniforms looking concerned in Battle Royale (2000)Image via Toei
In a dystopian Japan facing economic collapse and rising youth unrest, the government enacts the Bottle Royale Act. True to its name, a class of ninth-grade students is chosen to compete in a deadly game, where only a few survive.Sent to a deserted island with food, maps, and random weapons, they must kill one another within three days. Failure to do so will only get them attacked, and their explosive collars make sure of that. Some plan on escaping, while others revel in the thrill of killing.
Years beforeSquid Game or The Hunger Games, Battle Royalelaid the foundation for the “every man for himself” genre. What’s even more shocking is that the characters are regular students who are pulled into the competition against their will. Even with guns and knives pointed at them, high school hierarchies still apply. Depending on which group you belong to, be it the popular kids or the outcasts, your social standing dictates life or death.
‘Under Siege’ (1992)

As the USS Missouri prepares for decommissioning, mercenaries disguised as a rock band seize control during the captain’s birthday celebration.Led by rogue CIA operative William Strannix (Tommy Lee Jones) and aided by Commander Krill (Gary Busey), they plan to steal the ship’s nuclear warheads. Casey Ryback (Steven Seagal), a former NAVY SEAL turned cook, escapes from confinement and begins sabotaging the takeover. With help from Jordan Tate (Erika Eleniak), he fights across the ship to stop the terrorists and save the crew.
Audiences might not expect much from a Navy cook, but this isn’t a zero-to-hero story. Casey is already an expert in everything from firearms and explosives to tactical combat. While everyone else is held hostage, he’s the one who wages a one-man war to take the ship back. Staying true to his cooking roots, several of the fight scenes take place in the kitchen, even incorporating knives into the showdown.
‘The Night Comes for Us’ (2018)
Joe Taslim and Iko Uwais look at each other as they stand bloodied after a brawl in The Night Comes for Us.Image via Netflix
Ito (Joe Taslim), a ruthless enforcer of the Triad’s elite Six Seas, turns against his own after sparing a young girl during a brutal village massacre. Marked as a traitor, Ito flees from the gang and has been on the run in Jakarta’s underworld. Although he hides in the shadows, Ito’s former friend Arian (Iko Uwais) is instructed to hunt him down. The Six Seas may have all the crew and weapons at their disposal, but Ito is not a vigilante one wants to mess with.
Nobody turns their back on their family, even if that family has claimed innocent lives. The Night Comes for Us proves there’s a price for doing so. From the director of Nobody 2, the film delivers tightly choreographed fight scenes that are as brutal as they are hypnotic to watch. Despite the relentless bloodshed, it’s hard to look away as teeth shatter, heads roll, and fingers are sliced — all rendered with calculated speed and precision.

Based on your answers, the Marvel hero who matches your spirit, values, and instincts is…
🕷️ Spider-Man
You carry the weight of the world on shoulders that are younger than they should have to be. Funny, loyal, and endlessly self-sacrificing, you do the right thing not because it’s easy — but because no one else will. You understand that responsibility isn’t a burden you choose; it’s one that finds you. Whether it’s a neighbourhood mugging or a multiverse crisis, you show up. Peter Parker’s lesson — that great power demands great responsibility — isn’t a slogan to you. It’s the code you live by, even when it costs you everything.
😈 Daredevil
You fight in the shadows between law and chaos, guided by a fierce moral compass that refuses to let the guilty walk free. Deeply principled and intensely focused, you use every tool available — your mind, your body, your faith — to protect those the system overlooks. You’ve looked into the darkness and chosen not to become it, though the line has never been easy. Matt Murdock’s duality — champion in the courtroom, devil in the alley — mirrors your own: relentless, conflicted, and unwilling to stop.
🤖 Iron Man
Brilliant, driven, and occasionally insufferable — but always the person who solves the unsolvable problem. You lead with your mind and back it up with resources, innovation, and a stubbornness that borders on heroic. You started out looking out for yourself, but somewhere along the way the world became your responsibility. Tony Stark’s arc — from ego to sacrifice — is your arc too. You build, you plan, and when the moment comes, you’re willing to give everything. Because in the end, you’re Iron Man.
💀 The Punisher
You’ve been through fire that would break most people — and it did change you, completely. What’s left is unyielding, relentless, and operating by a code that the world may not agree with but that you’ve forged in grief and conviction. You don’t ask for forgiveness, and you don’t expect gratitude. You see a corrupt, broken world and you’ve decided to do something about it, consequences be damned. Frank Castle’s war is born from love twisted by loss — and so is yours. Uncompromising and unflinching.
⚡ Thor
Powerful, proud, and on a lifelong journey to become worthy of the legend you carry. You lead with strength but have learned — sometimes painfully — that true greatness comes from humility, growth, and protecting others rather than seeking glory. You’re larger than life, yet more vulnerable than you let on. Thor’s story is one of transformation: from arrogant prince to worthy king, from isolated warrior to beloved protector. You bring the storm when it’s needed — and the warmth when it matters just as much.
🛡️ Captain America
You believe in something bigger than yourself — and you fight for it even when the world has moved on and nobody else will. You don’t bully the small guy, and you never stop when it gets hard. Steve Rogers didn’t become a hero when he got the serum — he was always one. So were you. Your strength isn’t in your fists; it’s in your refusal to compromise what’s right, no matter the cost. In a world full of people taking the easy road, you’re the one who picks up the shield and stands up — every single time.

‘Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons’ (2013)
Wen Zhang and Shu Qi fighting a pig demon in ‘Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons’Image via Huayi Brothers Media
Loosely inspired by the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, the film follows the aspiring Buddhist hero Tang Sanzang (Wen Zhang) as he sets out to protect the innocent from demons. However, the well-meaning monk is painfully inexperienced. Armed only with a book of nursery rhymes and a kind heart, he pushes past his fears to confront dangerous threats. Luckily for him, he receives help from the more skilled demon hunter, Miss Duan (Shu Qi).
Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons is a fantasy action-comedy turned all the way up. There is no way of knowing what Sanzang and Duan will encounter next. One minute, it’s a megalodon-sized, man-eating fish attacking a village. The next is a deceptively mundane chef who happens to be a pig demon in hiding. Considering the actual lore this movie is based on, it’s thrilling to watch these characters throw punches at creatures drawn straight from Chinese mythology.
‘Crank’ (2006)
Image via Lionsgate
In Crank, hitman Chev Chelios (Jason Statham) wakes up to a video revealing he’s been poisoned by a rival with a synthetic drug that will stop his heart if his adrenaline drops. With only hours to live, he tears through Los Angeles — brawling, crashing cars, and causing chaos — to keep himself alive. As he hunts down those responsible, he tries to protect his unsuspecting girlfriend, Eve (Amy Smart), pushing his body to its limits.
To get his hands on the man responsible for poisoning him, Chev turns to questionable methods to sustain him long enough until he gets an antidote. For a movie that’s all about keeping the adrenaline up, Chev certainly has his own ways of finding it. Crank barely takes a moment to breathe, from the TV-breaking revelation after the injection to stealing epinephrine from the hospital. When desperate times call for desperate measures, Chev even electrocutes himself.
‘Ip Man’ (2008)
Ip Man (Donnie Yen) defends a factory in ‘Ip Man’ (2008)Image via Mandarin Films
In 1930s Foshan, China, Ip Man (Donnie Yen), a quiet but highly skilled Wing Chun master, is widely respected among local martial artists. When the Japanese invasion devastates the city, he loses his wealth and is forced into poverty. On the other end of the economic spectrum, is General Miura (Hiroyuki Ikeuchi), who organizes brutal martial arts matches against Chinese fighters. When injustice by the government starts plaguing the local community, Ip Man steps forward to defend his people.
Action movies wouldn’t exist without their forefathers. Ip Man is based on the real Wing Chun grandmaster and the teacher of Hollywood legend Bruce Lee. Ip Man’s skills are never in doubt, but the character also embodies the “with great power comes great responsibility” spirit. He fights not just to defend himself, but to protect those threatened by the government and its cronies.
