Hey, we’re never gonna turn down the prospect of MORE Disney rides!
Since Disneyland opened in 1955, The Walt Disney Company has focused on bringing its illustrious intellectual property (IP) to the Disney Parks worldwide. Whether or not you want more original concepts developing into rides is kinda moot at this point…Disney is dead-set on building attractions based on established movies and franchises. With that reality in mind, we’re asking Disney why it hasn’t already pulled from these six films to create some incredible attractions!
The Emperor’s New Groove
Perhaps the most obvious choice is The Emperor’s New Groove (2000). Could you imagine a Yzma-themed roller coaster ride as part of the Disney California Adventure expansion or in the new Villains Land in Magic Kingdom? The movie already includes a scene in Yzma’s lab that includes plenty of twists, turns, and drops — the foundation literally exists!
Imagine hearing “Pull the lever, Kronk!” before a big drop…C’mon Disney, it’s too easy!
Brave
2012’s Brave surprisingly doesn’t have a ride representation yet. This adventure film could literally be represented in all sorts of different ride types.
You could have a dark ride featuring the gorgeous Scottish Highlands, or a thrill ride centered around the Highland games, or even a boat ride featuring many of the cute animals from the film. A Brave-themed attraction would fit nicely in a Fantasyland or in Fantasy Springs in Tokyo DisneySea.
Wall-E
How has Pixar’s WALL-E (2008) not made it to the parks yet — ESPECIALLY in EPCOT’s The Land???
Ideal for a dark ride about the importance of conservation with a fun Pixar flair, the film provides plenty of inspiration for both post-apocalyptic and space set pieces that are impossible to ignore. The film’s creativity — mixed with its important ecological messaging — makes it a fantastic fit for EPCOT.
Treasure Planet
While Treasure Planet (2002) remains one of Disney’s most underappreciated films, that doesn’t change the fact that it lends itself perfectly to a new attraction.
Based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island” book, Disney’s animated film takes the story and puts it in space.
You guys…space pirates belong in the Disney Parks. We’ve already seen how popular flying pirate ships are with Peter Pan’s Flight. Throw in some real thrill and adventure, and you’ve got yourself a real winner that would work at just about any Disney Park, especially Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney California Adventure.
Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Like Treasure Planet, Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001) is criminally underrated. This deep-sea/archaeological adventure story has it all: endearing characters, thrills, high-tech sky bikes and city infrastructure, and plenty of awe and wonder.
You could literally make a ride similar to Flight of Passage in Animal Kingdom with the Atlantean flying machines or even replace Disneyland’s Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage with Atlantis. There’s a fantastic portion of the movie where the characters must escape a deadly Leviathan attacking their submarine. There are some fun elements of the movie that would translate into a great theme park attraction.
Hercules
EPCOT doesn’t have a Greece pavilion, but if it ever decides to build one, an attraction based on Hercules (1997) is a natural fit.
You could do a dark ride based around the plot of the film, or maybe a thrill ride featuring Hercules taking on the Titans, the hydra, Cerberus, or other mythic monsters.
Or Disney could build a Hades-themed ride over in the new Villains Land in Magic Kingdom! A popular villain to this day, a funny Hades attraction in the land makes a ton of sense.
If Disney ever builds a Hercules ride, the Fates HAVE TO BE INCLUDED, though — or we riot.
Dinosaur
…Too soon?
In all seriousness, Disney’s Dinosaur (2000) was a risky bit of filmmaking that included innovative live-action animation that blended computer graphics with real-life locations. It was made with a ton of creativity and love — and it deserves to have an attraction somewhere… especially with the one in Disney’s Animal Kingdom going extinct.
