Zach Thompson details his best player prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Sunday’s matchup between the 76ers and the Timberwolves.
The NBA has a full Sunday night slate, including a fun non-conference matchup between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Target Center. The Sixers are completing their back-to-back and looking to stop a five-game losing streak, while the Timberwolves have won three straight, including their return to action after the break on Friday. With both teams sitting sixth in their conference and looking to improve playoff positioning, let’s break down the matchup and find some 76ers and Timberwolves player prop bets that make sense to add to your betting card for Sunday night’s game, which tips at 7:00 p.m. ET.
In the overall picture, the Timberwolves are heavy 9.5-point home favorites with the point total at 239.5 on DraftKings Sportsbook. Both teams will be without their big centers as Joel Embiid (knee/shin) remains out, and Rudy Gobert will serve his one-game suspension for accumulating technical fouls. Without Rudy, Naz Reid (shoulder) could play a bigger role, but he’s also questionable with a shoulder injury.
The Timberwolves are 35-22 overall and 20-10 after their win on Friday over Dallas. The 76ers, on the other hand, are 30-26 after losing four straight. This will be the first meeting of these teams this season, with a rematch in the City of Brotherly Love on tap for Apr. 3.
Let’s take a look at some of the top player prop bets from both the 76ers and the Timberwolves in this Sunday night matchup. These picks can be used as standalone plays or combined in a Same Game Parlay (SGP), as indicated at the bottom of the post.
76ers at Timberwolves Best Prop Bets on DraftKings Sportsbook
Jaden McDaniels o14.5 Points (-101)
McDaniels could play bigger if Reid joins Gobert on the sidelines, and the 25-year-old forward has been more involved in the offense lately. Even though he only had seven points in the team’s first game after the break, he still took 11 field goal attempts, and he has at least double-digit shot attempts in seven of his last nine games.
He has gone over this prop line in six of those nine contests, including four games with at least 20 points. With the team’s moves at the trade deadline, the rotation remains tight for the T-Wolves, usually leading to plenty of minutes for McDaniels.
If he keeps getting more shot opportunities, he should be able to get at least 15 points in this matchup with the Sixers, who are a little thin on the wing without Paul George (suspension) and could be dealing with some fatigue on the second night of a back-to-back.
Andre Drummond U19.5 Points + Rebounds (-104)
In Saturday’s loss, Drummond had five points and 12 rebounds in 21 minutes against the Pelicans in New Orleans. He isn’t on the injury report for this game, so he’s likely to play his first back-to-back since Dec. 19 and 20, when he started back-to-back games but came in under this prop line in the second game, which was against the Mavericks.
Drummond is averaging 6.9 points and 8.8 rebounds on the season, but as a starter, those numbers jump to 8.8 points and 11.0 rebounds. He has been starting in place of Embiid in four of his last five games, but he has only gone over this prop line once in his last four.
Especially since he could be playing fewer minutes on the second half of the back-to-back, I think he’ll come in under this prop line once again. Even without Gobert, the frontcourt of the Timberwolves s solid and should be able to hold Drummond in check on Sunday night.
Donte DiVincenzo o4.5 Assists (+116)
The Timberwolves shook up their backcourt rotation a little bit at the deadline, adding Ayo Dosunmu and trading away Mike Conley, only to re-sign the veteran after he was traded again and released. While he has been the starter all season, DiVincenzo has been picking up a little more work lately as a playmaker.
He’s averaging 4.3 assists in his 57 games this year, but over his last nine games, he has averaged 4.8 assists, going over this prop in six of those nine games, including each of his last three.
On Friday against Dallas, DiVincenzo handed out nine assists, going well over this prop line. If he continues to run the offense so effectively, he has a good shot at going over this plus-money prop line in Sunday’s game.
Bonus Parlay Pick: VJ Edgecome U21.5 Points + Assists (-104)
If you’re building an SGP (Same Game Parlay) from this Sunday matchup, adding in the under on Edgecombe’s points plus assists boosts the odds to a solid +1100 for these four 76ers-Timberwolves bets.
Even with more work coming his way without George and Embiid, Edgecome has been under this prop line in six straight games and 13 of his last 14. I love his long-term potential and upside, but the rookie seems to have hit a little bit of a wall. Especially if this game isn’t close down the stretch, Edgecombe is likely to stay under this prop Sunday night.
