Stunning red skies lit up Israel’s horizon on Sunday evening, captivating social media with striking sunset images in vivid crimson hues. According to Dr. Amir Givati, head of the Israel Meteorological Service, the spectacle was the result of strong easterly winds and a unique cloud formation.
“There were strong, dry easterly winds today, and the only clouds present were cirrus clouds at 6 kilometers altitude, which are made of ice,” said Givati. “Unlike rain clouds, ice crystals refract and scatter sunlight, creating this atmospheric display.”

The weather tonight is expected to be partly cloudy to clear, with strong easterly winds in the northern and central highlands. Monday will remain similarly breezy, with slightly warmer temperatures—especially along the coast and in the lowlands, where they will be above seasonal averages.
Tuesday will bring a further rise in temperatures inland and in the mountains, while the coast and lowlands may see a slight drop. The warming trend is set to continue through Wednesday and Thursday, particularly in northern and central Israel.
