Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reinforced Greece’s commitment to European and transatlantic stability during a high-level summit in Paris on Tuesday. The Prime Minister’s agenda focused on two critical pillars of Western security: the defense of Ukraine and the strategic integrity of the Arctic region.
Strengthening the defense of Ukraine
Participating in the “Coalition of the Willing” summit, the Prime Minister emphasized that supporting the Ukrainian Armed Forces is the primary guarantee for European security.
Greece reaffirmed its €20 million contribution to the NATO Prioritized Ukraine’s List of Requirements.
While the Prime Minister explicitly ruled out sending Greek military forces into Ukraine, he signaled an openness to support through maritime surveillance and other external logistical aid.
Greece continues to serve as a vital energy gateway for Kyiv, utilizing the Alexandroupolis FSRU and the Vertical Corridor to ensure natural gas flow to the region.
Mitsotakis stressed that “the use of force to alter borders cannot be legitimized” and called for a unified EU strategy in upcoming peace negotiations involving the U.S. and Russia.
Greece endorses a Joint Declaration on Greenland
In response to recent rhetoric from the Trump administration—which has described the acquisition of Greenland as a “national security priority” and refused to rule out the use of military force—Prime Minister Mitsotakis joined other European leaders in a Joint Declaration.
Greece stands firmly with the declaration that Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, asserting that its future is a matter for Denmark and the Greenlandic people alone.
The Prime Minister underscored the strategic importance of the Arctic for transatlantic security, insisting that regional challenges must be addressed collectively within the NATO framework and in accordance with the UN Charter.
“Our shared responsibility as NATO allies is to uphold sovereignty and collective security, whether in the Mediterranean, the plains of Ukraine, or the strategic waters of the Arctic.”
