One of my interests is cinema. Cinema brings passion, political and social issues to the screen, and brings a message to the public. Everyone likes a good movie, but is that sure nowadays, with the amount of social media platforms? Can Snapchat, Instagram, Tiktok and Youtube change peoples feelings about movies in our generation?

It’s sad to think about people getting bored with movies because they are too long, or their story is too complex, replacing dreams and works of art for short videos and influencers. That is what’s happening with younger generations, that cannot stand being sat for many hours, or playing a board game too long.
In our generation, Gen Z, that is happening too, but in a minor scale I guess. People my age, and our age still appreciate little things like going to the movies, the feeling of watching your favourite movie for the first time and falling in love for it or showing it to their friends. This age difference, despite of being little, shows how our education shaped our interests, hobbies and “patience” skills.
I am strongly convicted that the year I was born affected my humour and personality, and with that my movie taste, so, as a member of Gen Z, and a cinephile, those are the best movies of any occasion (in my opinion, of course).
“Forrest Gump”

I chose “Forrest Gump” to be the first movie to appear in this article because of the impact it had in me. This is very capable of being one of my favourite movies, and one of the best movies of all time, in my opinion.
I don’t really cry when I am watching a film, but with “Forrest Gump”, I can tell you: I cried till my head started to throb. The cinematography was great, the actors did a great job, the story is brutal, and captivating, and what appeared to be a simple movie, turned out to be a pure masterpiece. “Forrest Gump” tells the story of a man (Forrest Gump) that is speaking about his life and story to people on a bench. The movie is realistic but really pure because of the main character. I will never forget the first time I saw it for the first time. If you want something to make you laugh and cry at the same time, choose Forrest Gump, you’ll not regret. What a movie!
“Life is like a box of chocolates”
“The Hangover”

I watched this movie without any expectations, but I did not know I would laugh so much with a bunch of grow men trying to figure out where was his friend after a wild night…
“The Hangover” is perfect for people that like to laugh at every scene, and just want to have fun! The humour they used was amazing, and this is another example of great actor choices. Pure Comedy. I did not watch the other “The Hangover” films, but I am sure I am going to like them. Probably they are even funnier and crazier than the first one.
“The French Dispatch”

“The French Dispatch” is a great movie for people that want a unconventional movie. This film is filled with great actors, like Timothée Chalamet, Adrien Brody, Owen Wilson and many others. “The French Dispatch” is a whole vibe. (Some scenes are in black and white, which is very cool). If you are that artistic friend, always listening to music and loves to write poetry, this film was made for you!
For Horror Nerds

Horror is one of the best movie genres in my opinion. I like so many horror movies I could not even pick one for this article! If you want to start watching this movie genre, I recommend you to start with the Classics: “The Shining”, “Scream”, or “The Nightmare in Elm Street”. If you want to watch modern horror movies, I’d recommend you “Pearl”, the first horror movie I ever watched (and fell in love too) , “Us” or “It”. (And now “It” even has a show!).
“Hoodwinked”

“Hoodwinked!” build up my entire personality. If you want an animated movie with lots of dark humour (but still made for kids) please watch “Hoodwinked!”. The characters are precious, and the simplicity mixed with lots of jokes is the key for a good movie. I will never get bored of this movie, and it gets funnier every time I rewatch it! If you have kids, or you just want to laugh a bit, please watch it, you won’t regret!
“Beautiful Boy”
If you want to feel a little sad, (but not too sad to watch Forrest Gump :P), watch “Beautiful Boy”. This movie is great, not only because of the amazing actors, like Timothée Chalamet, and Steve Carrell, but also because of the story itself. This film talks about addiction, and how does it impact the house and family environment, and the Intoxicated person too, in a beautiful way. Image Credit: Jonathan Gonzalez from Unsplash
“Se7en”
“Se7en” is a classic thriller, with lots of emotion, and a brilliant plot-twist! The actors are really good, and well-known, like Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman and Gwendolyn Paltrow, and the beauty of the movie is really captivating and spooky. It almost feels like you are in danger, or you are solving the crime.

So, in order to conclude this article, I must say I had really fun making this text and sharing with you the movies that had some special effect on me. They might not be the “the greatest” movies, but they are comforting, and they had an impact on my life, and that is something beautiful. Cinema is pure beauty.

“To me, the thing love and cinema have in common is that they are about seeing. The greatest act of love you can give to anyone is to see them exactly as they are. That’s the greatest act of love because you wash away imperfections.”-Guillermo del Toro
