In a new trade proposal, the Chicago Bulls acquire Michael Porter Jr.
The Brooklyn Nets’ Michael Porter Jr. will be one of the buzziest names at the NBA trade deadline. While his team is in the middle of a rebuild, the 6’10” forward is having a career year in his seventh season in the league.
Porter Jr. can help any playoff contender with his sharpshooting and rebounding abilities, but he’s a particularly good fit for the Chicago Bulls. The team is in position to make the Play-In Tournament, but also wants to build for the future.
In a new trade proposal, Jedd Pagaduan of ClutchPoints has the Bulls acquiring Porter Jr. for a promising young player and a draft pick.
Here’s the full trade proposal:
- Bulls receive: F Michael Porter Jr.
- Nets receive: F Zach Collins, G Kevin Huerter, F Noa Essengue, Portland Trail Blazers’ 2026 first-round pick (lottery-protected for 2026 and 2027, becomes a second-round pick if it doesn’t convey by 2027)

Why Chicago Bulls Make This Trade
The Bulls need to surround point guard Josh Giddey with talented offensive players, and Porter Jr. fits the bill. He’s averaging 26.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists while shooting 49.5% from the field and 41.1% from three this season. While he won’t be taking nearly as many shots in Chicago, Porter Jr. has proven he’s a reliable scoring threat from the wing.
This trade would also come at a minimal cost to Chicago. There’s a good chance the draft pick ends up being a second rounder. At worst, it won’t be a lottery selection. Chicago certainly likes Noa Essengue after using the 12th overall pick on him in the 2025 draft, but they should be willing to part with him for a potential All-Star this year.
Porter Jr. is under contract for one more season, meaning the Bulls could try to supplement him and Giddey in free agency ahead of 2026-27. If things don’t work out in Chicago for the forward, he’ll be a valuable trade chip at next year’s deadline.
Why Brooklyn Nets Make This Trade
If you’re the Nets, you’re mostly banking on the potential of Essengue and hoping the draft pick becomes a first rounder. The Frenchman had his rookie season cut short by a shoulder injury, but he’s still just 18 years old. Brooklyn seems to have a long runway towards trying to compete, and Essengue could grow into a terrific player if given the time.
Other teams like the Golden State Warriors and Detroit Pistons are also interested in Porter Jr., and Brooklyn will definitely be shopping the forward. But this isn’t a terrible offer if it’s the best the team can find.
