Greece rises in corruption index as global outlook worsens

Greece ranked 56th among 182 countries in Transparency International’s 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index, rising three positions with a score of 50 out of 100. Since 2018’s economic crisis low of 45 points (67th place), Greece has climbed 11 positions.

The improvement contrasts sharply with global trends. The worldwide average fell to a decade-low of 42 in 2025. Four of the top 10 countries lost ground, five remained static, and only one improved.

Government officials credited judicial reforms that “halved the time required for first-instance decisions,” a €550 million court construction program, and digitization initiatives. Turkey, comparatively, plummeted from 49 points (2011) to 31, ranking 124th. Denmark (89) leads for the eighth consecutive year.
