Inter Miami want Ronaldo

The Daily Star believes that Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham is aiming to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Al Nassr.

That would see the Portugal international striker in the same team as his former Barcelona rival Lionel Messi.

The paper claims: “David Beckham is looking to make football history by teaming the greatest two players of a generation together. The ex-Man Utd star, who owns MLS side Inter Miami FC, is seemingly looking to partner his ex-teammate Cristiano Ronaldo alongside long-time rival Lionel Messi.

“Messi has been starring for the MLS side for the last two years, and now Beckham appears to want to up the team’s star power. And it can only happen because Ronaldo’s future has been thrown into the spotlight following his controversial strike in Saudi Arabia.

“The Portuguese superstar, who turned 41 last week, refused to feature for Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr in their 1-0 triumph over Al Riyadh last week after being incensed by Karim Benzema’s switch to championship contenders Al Hilal.”

Spurs candidates identified

The Evening Standard reports that several names are in the frame to take over from Thomas Frank at Tottenham Hotspur.

John Heitinga, Ryan Mason, Roberto De Zerbi and Robbie Keane are all mentioned as potential candidates.

The paper explains: “Heitinga is a strong contender to be placed in temporary charge for the remainder of the campaign.

“The Dutchman arrived at the club last month to join Frank’s coaching staff, replacing Matt Wells after he left to take charge of Colorado Rapids.

“Mason took temporary charge for the first time in 2021, leading the club in a Carabao Cup final after Jose Mourinho’s dismissal, and in 2023 once Antonio Conte and then Cristian Stellini had been sacked. He left Spurs in June last year to pursue his own managerial career with the West Brom job.

“Former Brighton manager De Zerbi is available after he left his position at Marseille on Tuesday. The former Shakhtar Donetsk boss has been linked with high-profile positions since his time at Brighton, including at Tottenham before Ange Postecoglou’s appointment.

“Keane – another former Spurs player – is currently managing in Hungary, in charge of Ferencvaros.”

Frank due huge Spurs compensation

The Sun details the potential scope of the payout that Thomas Frank could be entitled to after being sacked by Tottenham.

He could be due a remaining £18 million from the rest of his contract terms, and there are other costs associated with his coaching setup.

The paper writes: “Thomas Frank is due a staggering pay-off after being sacked by Tottenham.

“And the Dane’s miserable Spurs tenure may have cost the club up to £30.7 million in total.

“In addition to Frank, coaches Justin Cochrane, Chris Haslam and Joe Newton also made the move from West London.

“Spurs then handed Frank a contract to June 2028 worth around £8m per year.

“Including the £6m he has already been paid, Frank’s total three-year deal was worth an eye-watering £24m and they could be forced to pay the remaining £18m out in full.

“This means that, given the potential total £30.7m outlay on his tenure, each win cost the club £2.36m.”

De Zerbi linked with United and Spurs

Roberto De Zerbi has been linked with both Manchester United and Tottenham after his recent departure from Marseille.

The Daily Mail believes he is keen to return to the Premier League after his time with Brighton.

The paper reports: “Roberto De Zerbi has left Marseille with immediate effect, the Ligue 1 club have announced.

“Daily Mail Sport revealed last month that De Zerbi has admirers at Man United with the club looking for a new head coach in the summer.

“He was interviewed by Ineos in May 2024 and considered a leading contender to replace Erik ten Hag before the appointment of Ruben Amorim.

“De Zerbi is believed to be interested in a return to the Premier League and has also been linked with Tottenham Hotspur.”
