The Minneapolis hospital is dealing with a financial crisis over fewer patients and a lack of federal funds.
MINNEAPOLIS — Hennepin Healthcare announced Thursday it would remove 100 in-patient beds as it deals with an ongoing financial crisis.
After this change, Hennepin Healthcare will have 390 beds available. Additionally, the hospital is freezing discretionary spending and pausing certain employee benefits to cut down on costs.
“This adjustment is part of a broader effort to align resources with current demand and improve staff utilization,” Hennepin Healthcare’s media manager shared in a press release. “These actions are focused on sustaining critical patient services and ensuring we continue to prioritize care.”
The Minneapolis hospital laid off 100 employees and cut some programs, including acupuncture, sleep and chiropractic services, nearly three weeks ago. Dr. J. Kevin Croston, co-administrator, stated the financial crisis is due to fewer patients and a lack of federal funding that’s severely cutting its Medicaid reimbursements.
