Planning to cozy up with a Prime Video movie while love is in the air? Amazon‘s streaming service is home to a huge library of movies and shows, including high-octane action thrillers, intriguing sci-fi, and creepy horror, but if you’d like to relax in front of something a little gentler for Valentine’s Day, you’re in luck: Prime Video’s also home to a solid selection of charming romantic comedies.
Whether you’re in the mood for big screen, swoonworthy moments, a light-hearted, cheesier watch, or an old favorite, Prime Video has them all. And if you’d prefer not to spend your viewing time scrolling through the platform’s romantic offerings, I’ve put together a round-up of my favorites. So, if you’re planning a romantic movie night, here are the five rom-coms I’d recommend watching on Prime Video.
‘La La Land’ (2016)
Damien Chazelle’s romantic comedy-drama “La La Land” is one of my all-time favorite comfort watches and one of the best movie musicals in recent memory, and definitely worth streaming if you’re looking to be swept up in a big-screen romance.
The movie centers on aspiring actress Mia (Emma Stone) and die-hard jazz aficionado, Seb (Ryan Gosling). These two talents cross paths and fall in love while struggling to realize their respective dreams and trying to make ends meet while living and working in Los Angeles. Across two hours, we watch as the movie charts the highs and lows of their relationship, and see how pursuing those passions shapes and changes their dynamic.

‘Music and Lyrics’
If you’re looking for a bit of easy viewing for Valentine’s Day, I’d suggest “Music and Lyrics,” which is worth seeing for the ultra-cheesy parody song “PoP! Goes My Heart” alone.
This light and fluffy romantic comedy introduces us to washed-up singer, Alex Fletcher (Hugh Grant), who has a chance at mounting a comeback when popstar Cora Corman (Haley Bennett) wants him to pen a new song for him. The problem? Alex hasn’t composed anything for a long time, and lyrics used to be the domain of his ex-bandmate. Luckily, a guiding light arrives during a writing session, in the form of Sophie Fisher (Drew Barrymore), the “plant lady” who has a talent for writing.

‘Notting Hill’ (1999)
If you’ve only got time for one Hugh Grant romance to stream on Prime, it’s got to be “Notting Hill,” right? It’s still a charmer and has endured for a reason.
If you’ve never seen it before, “Notting Hill” centers on Will Thacker (Hugh Grant), whose life is turned completely upside down when famous American starlet Anna Scott (Julia Roberts) appears in his London bookstore. A chance encounter on the street (wherein he spills juice down her front) sees him inviting her back to his flat so she can change, which leads to a kiss, which leads to a full-blown love affair, and as the pair grow closer, they struggle as their lifestyles clash.

‘Sleepless in Seattle’ (1993)
Nora Ephron’s “Sleepless in Seattle” is one of my all-time favorite rom-coms, so when I saw it was available on Prime Video, I knew I couldn’t omit it from this round-up; Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan’s chemistry just makes this sweet story very easy to fall for.
This 90s rom-com revolves around recently widowed architect, Sam Baldwin (Hanks), and reporter Annie Reed (Ryan). When Sam’s eight-year-old son calls into a radio show to find a new partner for his dad, he reluctantly agrees and airs out his feelings. Annie — who’s based in Baltimore — overhears the show and catches feelings for Sam. She’s engaged, but suspects something’s missing in her relationship, and decides to write a letter to him to plan a romantic meeting atop the Empire State Building on Valentine’s Day.

‘The Big Sick’ (2017)
Michael Showalter’s “The Big Sick” is penned by comedian Kumail Nanjiani and his wife, Emily V. Gordon, and is based on their own lives, turning their story into a heartwarming romantic comedy/drama that follows the pair as they work through cultural differences. When Emily (played in the movie by Zoe Kazan) contracts a mysterious illness, Kumail is forced to face her feisty parents, his family’s expectations, and his own true feelings. Praised as “funny, heartfelt, and intelligent” on Rotten Tomatoes (where it holds a very impressive 98% approval rating from critics), “The Big Sick” is well worth your time.
