After a couple of seasons hosting her runway shows in Brooklyn, Tory Burch returned uptown for her fall 2026 collection. For one night only, she took over the new Sotheby’s headquarters on Madison Avenue, the former Whitney Museum turned Met Breuer Museum, and until recently the temporary home of The Frick Collection. The Upper East Side zip code is especially fitting for the fall 2026 show as the collection was centered on finding comfort in fashion. And uptown is familiar territory for Tory Burch, the brand and the woman behind the brand.

What does comfort mean for Tory Burch? It’s the feel of her father’s corduroy trousers and the embrace of well-worn Shetland sweaters. Those trousers have now been given an elongated roomy shape with a brushed finished as though they’ve been loved and hanging out in your closet for years. Shetland sweaters have been reworked to feel more, er, comforting. Soft and enveloping.

The collection featured the hallmarks of classic American sportswear rendered with modern ease and contemporary elegance, like trench coats, sweaters, button down shirts, ribbed shirts done sheer, blazers and pencil skirts. There were also smart looking cocoon coats that acted as sort of comfort blanket on the wearer. They gave us a sense of the familiar but spun with just the right dose of the new and unexpected to make them feel fresh and exciting.

For cocktail and evening, there were several drop waist dresses in boxy shapes, as well as pleated Grecian goddess dresses including one in brilliant marigold with a knot detail inspired by a cushion in tastemaker Bunny Mellon’s home in Antigua, which is now owned by Tory. For a hint of shimmer and shine, there were cardigans with metallic embroidery hand-crafted in India and coats emblazoned with with glimmering prints that recalled coromandel screens.

Accessories included whimsical sardine brooches and perspex belts in a tortoise finish slung low on the hips of silk dresses in jewel tone colors.

The show provided a wide range of sartorial options for the modern woman whether it be for when she is conquering the C-Suite or making beneficial changes to society through philanthropic causes.
