Jarrod Agen, the director of the White House’s National Energy Dominance Council, noted Greece’s role in the supply of natural gas to Southeast Europe in comments at the Munich Security Conference on Friday.
The US official congratulated Greek Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou, who was in the audience, for the Greek government’s positive stance on importing and transporting LNG.
Referring to the Athens meeting of the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (P-TEC) last November, the NEDC chief said that American officials made two trips to Greece in 2025, and met with all energy ministers from East and Central Europe to discuss how to promote natural gas transports from Greece and Poland to Ukraine. But the P-TEC conference at the end of the year was not enough, he said. A meeting on the Vertical Corridor would take place in Washington on February 24, with all ministers traveling to the US, to “achieve more deals.”
Agen described energy as “a tool to achieve peace in Ukraine,” citing the Vertical Corridor as an example of a project to achieve this aim.
