Reanimal was released earlier today (February 13), and it’s already getting lots of unwanted negative attention in its Steam reviews. The poor reviews mean the game currently holds a ‘Mostly Negative’ rating, and there’s a common theme with much of the early feedback – the lack of a Friend’s Pass. This feature was promised to allow gamers to play with a friend in co-op mode without any additional fee, and since the game is heavily focused on co-op gameplay, players are understandably upset.
The missing Friend’s Pass on PC is a bummer for everyone who was hoping to jump into co-op mode with their friends on day one. One reviewer, who pre-ordered the game, says they’re “really disappointed,” claiming it “isn’t a technical issue,” and that the devs had time to implement it.
Reanimal doesn’t get a Friend’s Pass on day one for PC players
In a post on Steam, the developers explicitly point out that they “cannot guarantee” the Friend’s Pass on day one, and that’s exactly what has happened – though players shouldn’t have to wait too long for it to be available. The full statement is below:
We are not going to pass on the chance for you to play with friends.
In the 17 months since we announced REANIMAL, one question has been asked more times than the long sheep has hairs: Will there be a friend pass for the game?
Well, good things come to those who wait, and today we are happy to confirm that yes, there will be a friends pass.
While we cannot guarantee that it will be available on day 1, we are working hard to offer you friends pass as soon as possible. More details will follow soon. For now, make sure your friends will be ready to be scared.

To add insult to injury, console players have been able to grab the Friend’s Code and play co-op with friends without the additional cost of buying a second copy. For example, the Friend’s Pass is completely free to pick up on the Xbox store right now. Reanimal comes from the creators of the widely popular Little Nightmares I & II. Unlike the completely single-player gameplay in those two games, Reanimal promises to build upon them with a co-op experience for fans of the franchise.
