LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers
LeBron James caught a stray during Saturday’s All-Star festivities. Former NBA guard Ron Harper made an offhand comment regarding the Los Angeles Lakers superstar when asked whether he ever expected both his sons to eventually make it into the NBA.
“I’m not LeBron James, I’m not going to tell my kids what they have do,” Harper said.
Harper was speaking alongside his sons, Ron Harper Jr. and Dylan Harper. Ron Harper Jr has recently begun to earn minutes within the Boston Celtics rotation. Dylan Harper is in the middle of his rookie season with the San Antonio Spurs.
Both of the brothers were part of the Rising Stars game on Friday, Feb. 13.
Harper’s comments were undoubtedly based on LeBron’s desire to share the court with his son, Bronny James. Fans have also postulated that LeBron could try to hold out for Bryce James to enter the league, too.
Nevertheless, the comment came out of left field. LeBron has been supportive of his children and their desire to reach the pinnacle of their sport, but we’ve seldom heard of him being the one driving the issue.
Harper’s comments shocked both of his sons, as they could be heard saying “Yooo” as soon as the LeBron shade left his mouth.
LeBron Wasn’t The Only Laker To Catch A Stray
LeBron James isn’t the only member of the Los Angeles Lakers to catch a stray over the first two days of All-Star weekend.
When speaking with the media on Saturday, Feb. 14, Kevin Durant mentioned Luka Doncic by name when discussing a lack of competitiveness in recent All-Star games.
“If you look at Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic now, let’s go back and look at what they do in the All-Star Game. Is that competition? So we haven’t questioned what they’ve been doing. But we’re going to question the old heads, and the Americans.”
Durant continued.
“But these two dudes out there, Luka and Jokic, they don’t care about the game at all. These dudes be laying on the floor. They’re shooting from half court. But you’ve got to worry about the old heads playing hard? I can read between the lines, bro. It’s just an overall topic that everybody’s been talking about.”
Doncic has since responded to Durant’s comments: “It was the same when I played in my first All-Star game, so I don’t know why KD mentioned me and Jokic,” Doncic said.
LeBron James Would Be Welcomed To Cavaliers
LeBron is currently in the final year of his contract with the Lakers. He will be an unrestricted free agent in the summer. Recently, rumors have begun to gather speed regarding a return to the Cleveland Cavaliers for a goodbye tour.
When speaking on “SiriusXM NBA Radio,” on Saturday, Donovan Mitchell admitted that he would welcome the opportunity to team with the aging superstar.
“As a Bron fan, to be able to be a teammate would obviously be special, but that’s not something that’s [in] my control,” Mitchell said.
LeBron’s future has been a hot topic for multiple offseasons. His age means he could choose to retire at the end of the season. But if he chooses to play another year, a move back to Cleveland would be an ideal way for him to wrap up his career. It’s clear that he would be welcomed by the current stars on the roster, too.
