A concert celebrating the musical heart of Johnstown was held at the Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center in Cambria County on Saturday evening.
Kicking off the night, the event featured a 19-member group, Jazz in your Face, featuring musicians from the Johnstown Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Later in the evening, select local artists competed in one of the center’s most popular concert experiences, Johnstown’s Got Talent.
Event coordinators said the audition process was extensive, narrowing down the talent from 55 auditions to just 12 performing on the big stage.
Executive director of the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, Erin Codey, said she’s proud of the work everyone has put into the program because it allows them to keep expanding the opportunities for youth participation.
She said, “We really feel strongly that the Youth Orchestra is the future of music in our community and of our orchestra as well.”
Codey said some students drive as far as an hour and a half to perform with the symphony.
