Eighteen Windsor High School students competed in the school’s annual science fair last month. The students chose research topics and completed projects on a variety of topics, including food, biological and behavioral sciences, as well as computer engineering, Windsor science fair director and teacher Catharine Engwall wrote in an email.
A panel of 15 judges selected nine students to present their projects at the Vermont Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Fair on March 14 at Norwich University:
First place: Wilson Engwall, “Using Vibrations in Morse Code to Interpret Text”; and Grace Blanchard, “The Effects of Over the Counter Medications on Planaria’s Livelihood.”
Second place: Izzie Mouser, “How Carbon Fibers in Field Hockey Sticks Affect the Ability to Drive the Ball”; Audrey McFarland, “The Effect of Encouragement on Performance”; and Isebella Ciccarelli, “Catching Z’z?: How Relaxing Bedtime Activities Affect Time Awake During Sleep.”
Third place: Jocelyn Wrightson, “The Tipping Point of Typos: How many errors disrupt comprehension?”; and Jaylin Lyman, “Nose Knows Exercise.”
Honorable mention: Peter Larson Cammock, “Can Videogames Improve Short-Term Memory?”; and Lucas Renninger, “What Surface Produces the Fastest Slapshot?”
Post-secondary accomplishments
