Tom Burke and Eve Hewson will lead the cast of a new untitled film written and directed by Normal People director Lenny Abrahamson for Element Pictures, a Fremantle company.
The movie, which will start shooting in Dublin on March 2, is set within the city’s Jewish community in the late 1970s. Newcomer Sean Meagher also stars.
The producers are Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe of Element Pictures, Catherine Magee (Normal People, Small Things Like These), and Abrahamson.
Abrahamson (Room) will reunite for the movie with collaborators from his successful Element Pictures TV series Normal People and Conversations With Friends, such as production designer Anna Rackard, director of photography Suzie Lavelle, editor Nathan Nugent, make-up designer Sonia Dolan, and composer Stephen Rennicks. Also on board are costume designer Eimer ní Mhaoldomhnaigh (The Banshees of Inisherin) and hair stylist Orla Carroll (The Banshees of Inisherin).
Burke was last seen in Steven Soderbergh’s Black Bag and is also known from the likes of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, The Souvenir, and TV series Strike. Hewson’s recent credits include the film Flora and Son, as well as TV series The Perfect Couple and Bad Sisters. She next stars in Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day, which will be released in June.
The new film is funded by Film4, High Frequency Entertainment, Screen Ireland and RTÉ. A24 has boarded as the U.S. distributor, Elevation Pictures as the Canadian distributor and FilmNation Entertainment is representing international sales.
