Study in Greece (SiG) took a major step to internationalise Greek universities with a strategic visit to India from 1–7 February 2026. The mission aimed to develop a broad network of educational agents across India to directly attract Indian students to Greece.
The delegation began in New Delhi, holding meetings with over 50 education counsellors from India, Nepal, and elsewhere, and presenting opportunities for international studies at Greek universities. SiG highlighted its vision and strategic goals for the internationalisation of Greek higher education to the audience at the Greek Embassy.
Representatives from the Greek National Tourism Organisation (EOT) also participated, exploring potential collaborations to attract international students to short-term programmes and other initiatives. The delegation met Yerram Venkata Subba Redd, Indian parliament member and coordinator for several ministries including Education and Tourism, who praised SiG’s work and expressed enthusiasm for sending Indian students to Greece.
Next, the mission visited Mumbai, where SiG showcased Greek universities at a dedicated pavilion during OTM, Asia’s largest international tourism exhibition. Hundreds of visitors and more than 100 education counsellors engaged with the Greek delegation, forming partnerships to facilitate Indian student enrolment in international study programmes.
SiG also planned a wide-reaching promotional campaign in the Hindustan Times and across popular social media platforms, leveraging influencers to reach young audiences.
According to SiG, the mission demonstrates India’s strong interest in educational collaboration with Greece. The organisation has developed the infrastructure and services necessary to manage the anticipated demand and continues to build a robust network of local partners to support sustained student recruitment.
SiG described the visit as a pioneering step in Greece’s higher education internationalisation strategy, creating stable foundations for long-term cooperation with measurable benefits for Greek universities.
