Civil protection authorities have set much of western Greece on a state of alert for Tuesday ahead of potential flooding amid storms forecast to hit the area.
The warning issued Monday is for the Peloponnese, western mainland Greece, the Ionian Sea islands and Epirus, with local authorities instructed to prepare for potential damage and disruptions.
Rain and gale-force winds have been forecast for the coming days, mainly in western and northwestern Greece, with current unseasonably high temperatures expected to dip significantly from Friday and the weekend.
The National Meteorological Service said rain and thunderstorms are expected to hit the eastern Aegean Sea islands of Lesvos and Chios islands on Tuesday afternoon, with worsening weather expected on Wednesday. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are also forecast for Wednesday in much of the country.
