Wealth battles science in climate debate

In his recent commentary, Republican state Sen. Justin Ready couches our energy choices as “climate-fatalist ideology rather than scientific cost-benefit analysis” (“We need energy policy that serves Marylanders,” Feb. 15). So one approach is based on ideology and the other science. Unfortunately, he seems to have presented the argument backwards.

It is scientists who overwhelmingly state that global warming caused by our burning of fossil fuels is making our environment untenable for human life and exacerbating extreme weather events.

On the other hand, it is extreme ideology of current wealth that ignores the future planet we’re leaving our children and grandchildren. You never hear the words “future,” “planet,” or “grandchildren” uttered by Republican lawmakers. Oh right, it’s “your” money.
