Recent reporting from within the Golden State Warriors locker room points to the issues stemming from comments made by Brandin Podziemski on Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler’s thoughts on Jonathan Kuminga, and Draymond Green’s response to it all.

The Golden State Warriors have experienced a lot of success over the past decade, but Draymond Green was recently named the most overrated player in the NBA by Bleacher Report. NBA fans took notice of the popular platform coming out with a full top ten list of the most overrated players currently in the league. Golden State’s aging roster sees a few players celebrated with their past accomplishments in mind.

Bleacher Report claimed that Green has reached the level of being the most overrated, with the following top ten names:

  1. Draymond Green
  2. Anthony Davis
  3. Zach LaVine
  4. Kristaps Porzingis
  5. Zion Williamson
  6. Deandre Ayton
  7. Tyler Herro
  8. Jaren Jackson Jr.
  9. Kyle Kuzma
  10. D’Angelo Russell

Factors like contracts, team performance, and contributions to teams while on the court were named as the logic to decide who makes this list. Green getting paid big money and contributing minimally on the offensive side gave him a negative standing. Golden State has remained in the eighth playoff seed for most of the season with few fans expecting them to make a deep run.

Should Other Players Have Outranked Draymond?

Anthony Davis, Zach LaVine, Kristaps Porzingis, and Zion Williamson all rounded out the top five. Each of these players has dealt with injuries and poor overall team seasons of lackluster results. Davis getting traded for such a weak trade package via the Atlanta Hawks showed how much he’s fallen in value to raise his overrated status.

LaVine has hit rock bottom after remaining with the woeful Sacramento Kings and no longer holding much relevance around the league. Porzingis is expected to make his Warriors debut soon and will be in the same starting lineup as Green. Williamson’s constant health woes and the New Orleans Pelicans falling apart each hurt his reputation.

The argument for Green over the other names is that he averaged a triple single at his best and has taken a few steps back since then. Other highly ranked players on this list have more injury related excuses for their struggles and have been delivering stronger results on the court when healthy.

Draymond’s Reputation Also Influenced Ranking

Green has become a polarizing basketball player throughout his career to make that part of his legacy. Taking cheap shots at other players via kicks or punches and getting suspended many times for his wild actions have tainted Green’s accomplishments to many fans.

The stronger spotlight on Green makes his criticism stronger than most. Most of the last names on the list, like D’Angelo Russell and Kyle Kuzma, have nowhere near the importance that Draymond has to show why he ranked so highly. Few talents of stronger prominence end up in controversial stories and with stats as low as his.

Bleacher Report certainly has an argument, but he usually contributes to winning when called upon. Golden State’s limited depth after losing Jimmy Butler makes it hard for Green to do his best work since everyone is tasked with doing a little more. Green in turn gets viewed as overrated this season, as shown with the ranking.
