Welcome back to the Third and Ten Podcast! This week’s episode was packed with big shake-ups in the Dolphins organization, hot rumors, and a dash of NBA all-star excitement.
Happy Lunar New Year & Weekend Vibes
Nathan Nguyen welcomed listeners with Lunar New Year wishes, sharing a bit about the Year of the Horse and reminding Brian Germinaro (and all of us) that a new year is always a fresh start. The guys then caught up on their weekends – from hockey recaps (Team USA dominating the Olympics) to leftover steak mishaps at Texas Roadhouse, and even a bit of movie talk (Moneyball, of course).
Dolphins Officially Drain the Tank
The main NFL headline: the Miami Dolphins are in full rebuild mode. Tyreek Hill, Bradley Chubb, and James Daniels were all released, signaling the start of a new era under GM John Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Haffley. Nate and Brian dove into the moves:
- Tyreek Hill: Massive talent, but coming off an ACL injury. Neither host is convinced this was handled perfectly, but both see the logic in Miami moving on and building a young core. Could Hill land with the Giants? The guys discussed the fit – his star power, injury risk, and off-field concerns. There’s caution, but intrigue too.
- Bradley Chubb & James Daniels: Solid performers, but just part of the Dolphins’ sweeping roster reset.
Who’s left? Only Tua Tagovailoa, and the consensus is he’ll soon be gone too. The Dolphins’ future is all about youth, patience, and plenty of drafts.
Giants Rumors: Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce & Offseason Updates
Is New York building a super team? Brian weighed in on the Tyreek Hill possibility and Travis Kelce rumors:
- Hill: Tempting for the Giants (and fans!), but likely an overpay for an aging, injured receiver. The risk is high, and both athat gree New York should explore but not overspend.
- Kelce: Craig Carton’s report says Kelce wants to play for the Giants and live with Taylor Swift in NYC. The guys debated the media circus, Kelce’s declining production, and whether he’d fit the Giants’ culture. Verdict? Fun rumor, but let’s not get distracted from building a winning team.
The Giants’ new coaching staff got a shoutout, too, with Jon Harbaugh bringing in his Ravens crew and expectations rising for a more competent season.
NBA All-Star Weekend Reaction
Not all sports headlines were on the gridiron! Nate, a Lakers fan, praised the NBA All-Star festivities – especially the new round-robin All-Star Game format. Standouts:
- Dunk Contest: Still needs saving; this year’s lineup was a bit underwhelming.
- Three-Point Contest: Damian Lillard took the crown, even while injured.
- All-Star Tournament: Competitive, energetic, and exactly what fans want to see. The Stars (led by Anthony Edwards) outclassed the Stripes for the title.
The conversation shifted to the Lakers’ future, Luka Dončić’s impact, LeBron’s potential last run, and the need for more shooters on the LA roster.
Wrapping Up
The episode closed with the promise of more baseball and NBA chat in the coming weeks – football may be on pause, but the Third and Ten Podcast is just getting started.
