Barry and Randy Lanham will host a Community Square Dance, Clogging, and Live Music event on Saturday, Feb. 28, at Bittel Hall at the Daviess County Fairgrounds.
The event is scheduled from 7-9 p.m. and is designed for participants of all experience levels. Barry Lanham will teach the dances, with live music provided by Randy Lanham and his band.
Randy Lanham said the event is rooted in family tradition.
“I remember playing at square dances when I was a kid learning to play, and it was so much fun to see all the smiles on people’s faces as they danced,” Lanham said. “A person does not even have to be a good dancer or know the moves. Barry is really good at teaching dances fast and making it fun for all ages. My band will be playing the old square dance tunes while they dance, and doing good sing-along songs in between.”
According to the Lanham brothers, the goal of the evening is to revive a style of dancing they grew up attending.
The music will feature old-time square dance tunes passed down through their grandfather, John Lanham, along with bluegrass and classic country selections performed between dances.
Tickets will be available at the door for $10. Children ages 6 and under will be admitted free. Concessions will also be available. Organizers said payment will be accepted by cash or Venmo only.
The Daviess County Fairgrounds is located at 6191 KY-54 in Philpot.
