Prue Leith Opens London Fashion Week in a Vin+Omi Pantsuit Using Plants From Sandringham

Former Great British Baking Show judge Prue Leith opened London Fashion Week on Tuesday wearing an ensemble made from plant fibers sourced from Sandringham, King Charles’s private estate. Leith walked the runway in an orange pantsuit paired with a pink ruffled shirt and a floral headpiece as part of the new eco-fashion collection by British designers Vin + Omi.

The outfit, according to Hello, was created using holly, nettles, butterbur, wood clippings, and recycled aluminum. Per the Times, “The material has been celebrated as a fashion first. It was made from extracting cellulose from Sandringham holly which was spun into fibres.” The entire look was produced as part of an ongoing collaboration with King Charles that repurposes plant waste from royal estates into wearable garments.

The designers have worked with King Charles for several years and hosted a sustainable fashion exhibition inside Sandringham House on the Royal Estate in 2024, titled “From Royal Gardens to Fashion’s Future.”

King Charles “is incredibly creative because he’s so open-minded,” designer Vin said in a 2025 interview when asked how the King has influenced their creative process. “Most leading figures around the world are really rigid, really strict on protocol, and they would probably never look to dancing monkeys like us to fix their infrastructure.”

This is not the first time that Leith, who received a damehood in 2021 for her contributions to food and broadcasting, has strutted down the catwalk in a Vin + Omi creation for this project either. In September 2025, she wore a bright red RAF parachute that had been redesigned as a dress.

At Tuesday’s fashion show, Leith was joined in the audience by her husband, retired fashion designer John Playfair, and some of her former Great British Bake Off colleagues, including current host Alison Hammond and former presenter Matt Lucas.

Leith recently announced she was departing the beloved competition series after nine seasons, but said she was “thrilled” by the news that English cookbook author and television host Nigella Lawson would be stepping into the role. “She’s sassy, fun and she knows her onions—and her croissants, cake and crumble,” Leith told the BBC about Lawson.
