CANYON, Texas — West Texas A&M University students will get invaluable financial literacy lessons at an upcoming workshop.
The Advanced Money Management Bootcamp is set for 8:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 27 in Legacy Hall in the Jack B. Kelley Student Center on WT’s Canyon campus.
The workshop is a partnership between WT’s Education Credit Union Buff $mart Program, Rogers LEAD WT and the WT Alumni Association, as well as Education Credit Union.
ECU speakers will lead sessions on borrowing money, insurance and investing. Area businessman Dyke Rogers—who, with wife Terry B. Rogers, endowed the Leadership Education And Development program—will present “Lead with Your Finances.”
“At ECU Buff $mart, our mission is to empower students with the financial knowledge and practical skills needed to achieve long-term financial independence,” said Meghan Williams, program coordinator. “The Advanced Money Management Boot Camp provides real-world strategies for managing money—skills students can rely on throughout college and well beyond graduation.”
Rogers LEAD WT students will participate as part of their spring curriculum.
“The partnership between the Advanced Money Management program and the Rogers LEAD WT scholars is a powerful combination, merging critical financial knowledge with demonstrated leadership potential,” said Kimberly Cornelsen, Rogers LEAD WT executive director. “Our scholars are already poised to become future leaders, and this bootcamp will equip them with the practical, real-world financial skills necessary to not only manage their own resources effectively but to also drive sound fiscal decision-making in their future organizations and communities.”
The bootcamp is open to current students, community members and alumni. An online option is available upon request; email buffsmart@wtamu.edu for details.

Meeting regional needs is a key mission of the University’s long-range plan, WT 125: From the Panhandle to the World.
That plan is fueled by the historic One West comprehensive fundraising campaign, which reached its initial $125 million goal 18 months after publicly launching in September 2021. The campaign, which is now winding down, has raised more than $175 million.
