Committee to vote on $5M 911 center construction contract

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – The Jonesboro Finance and Administration Council Committee will vote Thursday on a $5 million contract to build a new emergency response center.

The committee filed a resolution to enter a contract with Bailey Contractors, Inc. to build the new 911 and Real Time Crime Center.

It will vote to approve the resolution at its next meeting at 4 p.m. Nov. 14. If the committee approves the resolution, it will move on to City Council for final approval.

Building the center and developing the site will cost $5 million, according to the contract. The funding for the project will come from capital improvement revenue bonds.

The center will be approximately 8,500 square feet and consist of a single-story poured-in-place concrete “hardened shell” structure with metal stud walls.

Advanced audio and video systems will be present throughout the center for communications and radio use, and it will have a large IT space.

The design will be finalized this winter, and construction is scheduled to begin spring 2026.

The Public Safety Center Task Force decided to build the new center on the 400 block of Washington Avenue in October after considering several locations.
