After Brad Pitt’s F1: The Movie zoomed to big box office in Imax theaters, the giant screen pioneer has partnered with Apple TV to bring five Formula One races live to hand-picked locations later this year.
U.S. F1 fans will be able to view Grands Prix races from Miami, Monaco, Silverstone, Monza and Austin across at least 50 Imax locations nationwide. The partnership, unveiled on Thursday, comes as Imax continues to push into live sports and other alternative programming in its theaters to open up new revenue streams, and Formula One racing looks to become the marquee sport in the U.S. that it long has been in Europe and elsewhere overseas.
“Apple TV and Joe Kosinski’s brilliant F1: The Movie proved beyond a doubt that the speed, precision, and artistry of Formula 1 translate beautifully to the Imax experience, and we are very excited to further our collaboration with Apple and offer fans more of what resonated so deeply with that film by presenting live F1 races to them in Imax,” Jonathan Fischer, chief content officer at Imax, said in a statement on Thursday.
Pitt’s Formula One movie was a major theatrical win for Apple Original Films and Warner Bros., which released the summer tentpole for the tech giant last year. F1: The Movie became the highest-grossing Hollywood release on Imax screens in 2025, with $97.6 million in worldwide box office receipts in Imax alone. The tentpole went on to earn over $600 million globally.
Imax recently re-released director Jerry Kosinki’s F1 movie across 50 of its U.S. screens from Jan. 30. And after Apple nabbed the F1 broadcast rights for the U.S. in Oct. 2025 as part of a five-year deal, Imax has come on board to show the speed and spectacle of F1 races live and beyond the Apple TV app on its big cinema screens later this year.
“F1 is a rapidly growing force in sports and culture in the U.S., and by bringing F1 on Apple TV live to Imax theaters nationwide, we’re delivering the energy and excitement to even more screens in a truly immersive way,” Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vp of music, sports, and Beats, said in his own statement.
The live F1 races showcase will start with the Miami Grand Prix on May 3, 2026 and run through to the United States Grand Prix in Austin on Oct. 25, 2026.
