Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met on Thursday on the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Government sources reported that during the meeting, the two leaders conducted a comprehensive review of bilateral relations and confirmed the excellent level of cooperation, two years after Mitsotakis’ official visit to India and two and a half years after Modi’s corresponding visit to Athens, which marked the upgrade of Greek-Indian relations to a strategic partnership.
They also expressed a mutual commitment to leverage this momentum to further deepen relations, particularly in the fields of defence, shipping and shipbuilding, as well as infrastructure.
Mitsotakis reiterated that Greece can serve as India’s gateway to Europe due to its geographic position and infrastructure. He also reaffirmed Greece’s intention to participate in the IMEC corridor.
The two leaders discussed the EU-India trade agreement and the opportunities it creates. Prime Minister Mitsotakis congratulated Modi on the agreement, describing it as a unique opportunity to strengthen EU-India economic and geopolitical ties amid an uncertain international environment.
Mitsotakis highlighted the emerging opportunities in the Indian market for high-quality Greek agri-food products, such as olive oil and kiwis.
The meeting also covered the latest developments in Ukraine. Additionally, Mitsotakis and Modi exchanged views on the evolution of artificial intelligence, with the Prime Minister emphasising that Greece and India have much to contribute to this discussion.
