Weather is expected to worsen on Friday, with the National Meteorological Service (EMY) issuing an urgent bulletin and forecasting a structured cold front bringing rain, thunderstorms and strong winds as it moves from east to west.

According to EMY, rain and storms will mainly affect the Ionian islands, Epirus and western Greece early Friday, while the rest of the country will experience increased cloudiness with local showers.

In the afternoon, the weather phenomena will spread to most mainland regions as well as the islands of the northern and central Aegean. In the Peloponnese, particularly in coastal areas, storms may be strong and locally accompanied by gusty winds, hail and an increased risk of tornadoes.

In Attica, rainfall is expected mainly in the afternoon with strong southerly winds. Dust movement from Africa will increases chances of muddy rain in southern Greece, including Attica.

Weather conditions are expected to improve over the mainland from Friday evening, except in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, where rainfall will persist until Saturday morning. On the islands of the Aegean and Crete, strong rain and thunderstorms will continue intermittently through Saturday afternoon.
