The Phoenix Suns suffered a major setback in their first game after the All-Star break on Thursday, as star guard Devin Booker sustained a hip injury during their 121-94 loss to the San Antonio Spurs.
Booker initially left for the locker room with 5:24 remaining in the first quarter, when the Suns trailed 19-16. He returned with 4:46 left in the second quarter but played only 71 more seconds before exiting the game for good with 2:35 left in the first half.
The fact that Booker made an unsuccessful attempt to return before leaving for the locker room again raised serious concerns about the severity of his injury.

After the loss, Suns head coach Jordan Ott admitted that his star player did not look right when he tried to return to the court in the second quarter.
“[He] tried to go back out there,” Ott said of Booker, via ESPN’s Michael C. Wright. “[Had to] save him from himself. [He] wasn’t moving great when he came back in.”
“He felt good enough to come back in,” Ott added.
“And the first couple of times up and down, I didn’t notice anything. And then, [I] definitely noticed there at the end of that second stint.”
Phoenix Suns in Tricky Spot
The latest Devin Booker injury setback comes less than a month after the five-time All-Star missed an extended period of action from Jan. 25 to Feb. 5 with a sprained right ankle. Booker, who sustained the injury in the Jan. 23 loss to the Atlanta Hawks, sat out seven consecutive games before returning against the Philadelphia 76ers on Feb. 7.
Booker has played only 13 of the Suns’ 23 games since the start of 2026 — a concerning trend for a team that relies so heavily on his leadership and playmaking.
It’s worth noting that Booker can miss only five more games to maintain eligibility for All-NBA honors. The former two-time All-NBA selection is widely viewed as a lock to make one of the three All-NBA Teams this year, given his steady production of 24.7 points, 6.1 assists and 3.9 rebounds, which have led the Suns to a winning record.
The latest Booker injury puts the Suns in a very precarious spot, as the backcourt of Booker and Jalen Green continues to be injury-prone. After Green missed a chunk of games earlier in the season, it now appears that Booker will be sidelined as well.
“I just want to see the guys play together. That’s it. That’s it, and I probably didn’t handle it right in-game when we got the news,” Ott said of the Suns injury setbacks, via Duane Rankin of The Arizona Central.
Green, in just his eighth game of the season, dropped 29 points on Thursday, but lost his starting backcourt mate.
“It’s been tough,” Green said of the injuries.
“He started the year off playing every game, and I was out the whole time. It’s only one game. He can take his time. By the time he gets back, I’ll have my rhythm. He’s already going to have his rhythm. DB (Dillon Brooks) coming back.”
