Greek PM: Relations between Greece and the US are at an all-time high

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met on Friday in Athens with a delegation from the US Congress led by Senator Jerry Moran. The meeting reaffirmed the excellent level of US-Greek relations, while discussing cooperation in a number of areas, with an emphasis on energy, defence and investment.

The prime minister underlined Greece’s role as a pillar of stability and security in the wider region, as well as as a provider of energy security for the entire Southeastern Europe through the Vertical Corridor. International and regional developments were also discussed, with an emphasis on the latest developments in Ukraine and the Middle East.

The Greek premier added: “I was also briefed on the statement made by President Trump when he welcomed our new Ambassador to Washington. The President highlights various aspects of our cooperation, from defence and security to energy and artificial intelligence.

I believe, therefore, that this will be an opportunity to discuss the depth of this relationship and to identify new areas of cooperation.

We are particularly excited about the energy aspect of our cooperation. Next week, an important meeting will take place in Washington on the Vertical Corridor. As you know, Greece’s infrastructure plays a key role in supplying our northern neighbors, including Ukraine, with natural gas, preferably American liquefied natural gas.

And we look forward to deepening this cooperation to do much more in other areas, including investments by large technology companies in technological infrastructure in Greece, an issue that I have also discussed with many US companies. I just returned from India, the AI summit, there is a lot of interest in investments in AI infrastructure, which is certainly also linked to energy.”

On his part, Senator Jerry Moran stated: Knowing from our work the value of the friendship between the United States and Greece, the possibilities for our cooperation seem endless. But we have already travelled much of this never-ending journey, we have come a long way, and we value the relationships we have in the areas of national security and the economy.

We are particularly excited about the opportunities that cooperation between the United States and Greece offers in the energy sector – a bright future – and we are glad to be back in Greece to congratulate you on the successes under your administration, and especially on Greece’s stability and role internationally, as well as in NATO.
