Thursday Music Club welcomes special performer to February meeting | News, Sports, Jobs

WHEELING — The Thursday Music Club will hold its next meeting at 11 a.m. March 5 at the Char House on the Boulevard in Bethlehem.

Music enthusiasts from the area are encouraged to attend this special performance by Gerald Lee, a pianist and professor at West Liberty University.

Lee has been a full-time faculty member at the college since 2002, earning national recognition for his talent.

Competition accolades include winning the 2009 Pittsburgh Concert Society Major Artist Auditions. His solo performances have been praised by critics, with the Charleston Daily Mail describing his 2010 recital for the Charleston Chamber Music Society as “an overwhelming musical success.”

Among his many accolades, Lee was named West Virginia Music Teachers Association Teacher of the Year in 2022, and guided students to first-place finishes in collegiate piano competitions during 2013-15.

The Thursday Music Club invites anyone who is interested in music to join the group. Membership dues are $20 per year. Monthly luncheons costs $20 per meeting. Reservations for the upcoming program can be made by calling Sandy Smith by March 1 at (304) 242-1628.

In addition to its monthly meetings, the club hosts chorus rehearsals in preparation for a spring performance. Rehearsals take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays at the Elm Grove United Methodist Church in Wheeling. The chorus is led by Anita Chops. Debbie Breiding serving as accompanist. With a rich history of celebrating and sharing the love of music, the Thursday Music Club welcomes new members and encourages the community to take part in its performances, study groups and educational events.
