Helming the project is Nelson Dilipkumar, whose 2023 blockbuster “Jailer” – starring Rajinikanth – cemented his reputation as one of Tamil-language cinema’s most commercially formidable directors.
The two icons shared the screen together more than a dozen times during the late 1970s and early 1980s, appearing in a string of Tamil cinema classics including “Apoorva Raagangal,” “Moondru Mudichu,” “Avargal,” “16 Vayathinile” and “Ninaithale Inikkum.” Their last proper co-starring vehicle was the 1979 fantasy film “Allauddinum Albhutha Vilakkum,” directed by I.V. Sasi. Their final shared screen appearance came two years later in K. Balachander’s 1981 comedy “Thillu Mullu,” where Haasan appeared in a cameo in the film’s climax. The parting of ways was a mutual and amicable one.
