Cloudy skies with scattered rain and isolated thunderstorms are forecast across parts of Greece on Sunday, while temperatures dip slightly, the National Meteorological Service said.

Showers are expected in Thrace, sections of Macedonia, eastern mainland regions, the Peloponnese and parts of the Aegean, including the Cyclades, Crete and the Dodecanese.

Storms are likely in Evia and Crete, with conditions gradually improving from midday in northern Greece and later in central areas. The rest of the country will see variable cloud cover.

Light snowfall is forecast in mountainous areas of the mainland and Crete.

Northerly winds will blow at 4 to 6 Beaufort, reaching 7 in parts of the Aegean and Ionian seas.

Temperatures will reach 10-12 degrees Celsius in the north, 14 to 16 degrees elsewhere and up to 17 degrees in the southeastern Aegean.

Frost is expected in northern inland areas early Sunday.

In Athens, forecasters expect variable cloud cover with a chance of light showers. Temperatures will range from 7 to 13 degrees, with northerly winds up to 7 Beaufort in eastern parts of Attica.

Conditions are expected to improve on Clean Monday, a national holiday marking the start of Orthodox Lent, with mostly fair skies and a slight rise in temperatures.
